I'm aware of Talley lightweights. What else is available?

Thanks,

John

Warne makes an all-steel, weaver-style base that will accept any Weaver-esque ring.

IMO if you buy a Montana get the lightest quality mount available. I like DNZ mounts but for a Montana I'd go with Talley lightweights.

I'd use S&K over the Talley LW's all day long.

I'd use Talley LW's all day long. It fits the concept of a lightweight rifle.

I've used both. The difference in weight is negligible. About 1 oz.

The man asked about other options besides the Talley. If he wanted opinion's about the Talley he would likely have asked.

For fugg's sake...

You've had those on a Montana?

I'd take the Warne Weaver bases and Burris Zees over those myself, for me the reason to not use Talley Lwt's is to have the ability to swap scopes. To each his own.

Most all my Montana's have had Talley Lwt's, but a few haven't.

Here's the Warne/Zee setup I did on an 84L 30-06...

Yep... saw that a couple weeks ago on their site. Thought they were 1913 with slot centered on the front base but can't find them on the Kimber site now.

Also saw that Nightfarce is going to offer a standard-duty rail/base (alu) for the 84 & 8400 which could be a interesting depending on thickness and scallop.

Thanks for the replies. I've used Talley Lightweights and never had any problems with them but have read several instances of them cracking on folks. I was hoping to find a base I could use with picatinny type rings but the only thing I see is the Warne rail. I don't want to go with a picatinny rail as they are too tall and raise the scope too high for my taste. Was hoping for something similar to the Burris XTB bases.

Brad,

Will Picatinny type rings clamp to the Waren Weaver style bases?

Thanks,

John

I don't believe picatinny rings will work on weaver bases.
