I have narrowed it down to these two scope models. Which would be a better scope? It will go on my custom model 70 for high country alpine hunting.

I cannot speak about the Swaro but I can speak for the Summit.

The Summit is fantastic. My only possible complaint is the thinner reticle (A8) in darker wooded environments (eastern deer hunting). This complaint is really generated from non hunting situations though when comparing scopes. In reality, the optics are so good that the thin reticle has never posed a problem when hunting or shooting in low light. I would still like a little heavier bars and possibly a little tighter subtension When deer hunting.

Contrary to that, the thin reticle is excellent in the Wyoming sage grounds. I am not sure I would like my FFP #4 out there, or any FFP scope for that matter. I loved the view through my summit.

The Summit mounts low, is relativley light, compact, has phenomenal optics, and precise adjustments. If you are turret spinner, S&B is working on a turret system that will be available for retrofitting on the summit. I have no idea when it will become available but it has been confirmed by S&B reps. Germans are slow...

Just my input on the summit. I do like the Swaro specs but have no experience with them.

Good luck.

Ditto everything CBB says on the Summit.

I have shot with the Swaro a lot on a friends 300 Weatherby the last 3-4 years. I think it's a great scope and has held up well to 300 mag recoil.

Buying again I would grab the Summit simply because I am more of a S&B fan when it comes to rifle scopes.

Having a turret for it would be interesting....but i just unscrewed the cap and ran the Summit turrets from 300 to 600 yards and back a few times. It tracked very well.

The 280 Remington is overbore.

The 7 Rem Mag is over bore.

They were threatening to come out with a retrofit for the Summit 4 years ago when I was looking at getting one.
