I once asked my mother for a dutch oven as a birthday present because he wrote an article about them. I got the oven and still use it. Wish my mother was still with us.
I bought my Dutch oven because of what Trueblood wrote about them. I carefully prepped and seasoned mine according to his recommendations and still use the same one.

I grew up in Nampa, Idaho, and joined the Nampa Rod and Gun Club as a teenager in the 1970s. It was a really great club in those days and Ted Trueblood usually showed up at the monthly meetings. He was a class act and his writing had a huge influence on me. To me, Ted Trueblood was the epitome of a true sportsman.

The B-29 story had me going for about half the article. Then I became suspicious . It was only equaled by the article that began with Mule Deer telling about his brother inhaling a piece of spaghetti and their father trying to retrieve it.

The difference between the B-29 story and the article starting with the spaghetti-up-the-nose is the pasta story was true.

Ted Trueblood was a great role model for a young wannabe....I used to love Ed Zern's stuff too, but as a kid didn't always catch on. True magazine? Oh yeah, and Argosy as well...barber shop standards...my dad usually subscribed to one or both.
Down at the barber shop last week there were eight guys ahead of me. No magazines or newspapers there...everyone is bent over their Iphone. One thing the barber shops in this town have that Walt didn't have when I was a kid, however, is the complementary beer cooler.

I wonder if you could legally post them on the fire?

Always read Ted when I could. I was stuck in Calioto as a boy and he was from SW Idaho were I was born, and wanted to be. Then I move here in my early 20's and was working in Caldwell 70's and he had a fly fishing class going on at the local park. Just drove by to look as the class and my work hours interfered with my attending. How many times I wish I would have stopped to just have met him.

I loved to read Trueblood's stories. I became interested in Dutch oven cooking as a result of reading his Dutch oven and camp cooking articles. RLD
