I saw my first fake Leupold the other day. A guy at work was given the scope, by a widow, along with some other stuff for helping with an estate sale.
It was supposedly a Mark 4 LR/T 3.5X10 , M3. I told him to bring it in to work,,I just wanted to look at it.
I didn't notice it right off. I should have but wasn't paying much attention. I'm not familiar with those scopes but I should have known right away.
First thing I noticed was that the M3 dial had to turn clockwise for up, and opposite of the arrow. Then where the gold ring is supposed to be was black plastic with some lettering. Mark 4's don't have anything there. Then the ser. number was 8888SC. (wow, what a ser. number)
I only had it for a few minutes before realizing that it was fake but felt pretty dumb not seeing it right off.

That is interesting. Did you take a look through it to see how accurate they copied the optics?
This same thing seems to come up now and then. Did you tell your coworker it seems to be a clone, and how are they going to handle it when selling?
If it is marked Leupold, Emericus, will be all over it, if they decide to sell it on here.

I didn't look through it, and I did tell my friend it was a fake, he thought something was up because it just wasn't very clear when he looked through it. He's not going to sell it....he doesn't have anything in it.

the fake ones might actually be better than the real ones. I'm not sure about that, as I have and like Leupold scopes. I recently bought a VX1, and it is a nice scope. I wonder if the clones have Diamond coat? E was the first one that I know that has told us how that works.

I was given one. I did not examine the details. The optics were very good. It had the same serial number as above. The dials adjusted opposite of the direction they were turned and the dials could not be reset to zero. It held zero very well and I used it on a very accurate 25.06 to make some long range kills. Then one day the sight picture went foggy on any power above 4. I gave it to a Leupold rep and he said they received dozens of them for repair and they all had the same serial number and same issues.

Scope is the only thing I have to buy American. Leupold's scopes are definitely worthy every penny they charged for
