Ain't nothing wrong with a .270 that +.030 won't fix..... smile

Me, I'm planning on using a .260 on a moose should fortune smile... The .243 worked, the .270 worked, the .30-30 worked, the 12 gauge slug worked, the .338WM worked....

Some of the others might too..... smile

It's gayness comes from the parent cartridge. Anything based on 30-06 is gay. 270 being the queen of that harem. Hope this helps.

The .270 (Bath-house Special) is a fine cartridge. It's all the rage in San Fran.

There's that too although I wasn't going to mention it in fear of offending any san fran campfire members. laugh

.30-06 is my favorite caliber, but I believe that might be because as a kid in the 50s and 60s that is what my father's generation shot. My daughter inherited an old Ruger 77 .270 on which we mounted a Burris scope with a lighted reticle. Also in the deal she inherited 1500 Win. 150 grain power points. Since it has our best low light scope and the feral hogs that destroy our pastures are low light loving depredators this is the rifle of choice. This "gay" rifle has killed a bunch of tough ass Russian boar hybrid hogs (and deer). The load is slow, maybe 2750 on a good hot day, but deadly. Put the red dot on him, pull the trigger, and no question about it, he is dead, often DRT. I like the .30-06 better but the .270 will easily kill a 500lb. hog. The magnums seem to give a lot more extra velocity on the butt end for the little extra mostly un-needed increase at the muzzle.

Yeah...but start a thread questioning the sexuality of .308Win shooters and wait for the screaming.

Hint...There won't be any.

My daughter will be looking to fill the freezer full of moose this year with her model 70 in a 270 courtesy of BSA. I have one in a LH model 70 as well. My wife has the same moose permit as my daughter and will be using a model 70 in a 280 Remington.

It took me over 20 years to warm up to the 270 win. Now having hunted on several continents and Europe with the 270 Win it is always accepted and never out of place.

Me too.

Also I have noticed in all this "270 is gay" CRAP that many of those spouting this nonsense go bonkers over a 280, 7-08, 7x57, 7 Mag, 260, 25-06 etc. Go figure...

Don't get me wrong, the .270Win. is not my favorite caliber, but it is darn good. I always said it was 90% of a .30-06. Even though .30-06 is my favorite it usually is overkill. I'm kind of intrigued as to why someone would get their dander up over a caliber that almost always could be used to the same effect as the .30 calibers,7mm,and even the magnums in these calibers. They are all good if you can shoot. In my younger days I was considering a 7mm Rem. magnum and a very good rifleman and gunsmith that I respect told me to stick with the .30-06. He said it recoiled less and killed better. I've shot deer and big nasty hogs with every thing from .243W through 7mm RM and the .30s and they are all good. .243 might be a tad light but I can't tell the difference in the rest as far as killing power if proper bullets are used.
