My first grandchild is 14 months old. I'm sure there will be more to come later. I figured I better get a youth sized .22 rifle ready to teach them marksmanship. It will be a while, I know, but why procrastinate. Aw Heck, I needed an excuse to add another CZ 452 to my collection of CZ rimfires. I mounted my neat little Weaver RV-7 (2.5-7X28mm) in a pair of CZ factory rings for a start: The range outing was a hoot. I employed a Pachmayr slip-on butt pad to help add a little length of pull for testing. The butt pad is a rifle model (smaller than their shotgun models). I purchased it on impulse years ago and never really had a use for it until now. It is easy to put on and take off. The best 50 yard five shot group was this .35 incher. The average of six five shot groups was .64". It was well above 50 degrees with shifting 4 to 6 mile an hour winds. The ammo was Wolf MT. I dialed the scope to 7 power for the test. These USBR bulls were tough aiming points at 7 power - I simply "quartered the pie".

That's how those 452s shoot. Pretty sweet.

Probably the best gun I've ever bought is a CZ 452. Can't say enough good things about it!

Chinook, I agree. I have a 452 22WMR and recently bought a 22lr varmint from a Campfire member that's another keeper. Both are wickedly accurate and fun to shoot. Gonna put a trigger kit in the Varmint. The trigger on the other one is the best factory trigger I've ever had. Breaks like glass. Great rifles for the money. I may have to get a Scout now.

Don't forget the CZ 452 American – a "go to" rifle in our local rimfire sporter matches. We host a half-a-dozen or so local rimfire sporter matches spread out on different Saturdays each month. In October or November of each year we hold an annual rimfire pentathlon of sorts. It consists of five of our most popular sporter events - all in one day - with the competitor using the same rifle, scope, and ammo throughout. Last November, I used my CZ 452 American, its Weaver Grand Slam 6-20X40 scope, and Eley Match ammunition in the 4th Annual Sporter Master Match. A very versatile set-up, below is video of our run in the Rapidfire Rimfire event. At 25 yards, the turkeys and pigs are at a about the same level of difficulty. But, the top row's little chickens are tougher. Turkeys - Center rack - Next to bottom row https://www.flickr.com/photos/128992557N06/15638689551/Pigs - Center rack - Next to top row - Cleaned 'em - six for six - earns the shooter a three second time deduction https://www.flickr.com/photos/128992557N06/15447848777/Chickens - Center rack - Top row https://www.flickr.com/photos/128992557N06/15020620804/My friend missed a video of the bottom row's rams. You can "flash sight" the big rams and really book. That was the speed extreme of the days activities and below is the result of the precision extreme; my 50 yard benchrest target (USBR). Victories in both of these events helped me take the day. I am a big fan of the CZ rimfires.

Nice shooting indeed. That target and match format were used in the Huntsman World Senior Games (Utah) for the first time last Shots were scored by the edge, so that looks like a 249 to me. My CZ American can do that. Whether I can is another question. Paul

Shots were scored by the edge, so that looks like a 249 to me. My picture (above) is kind of far away for a best view of the bulls. I think you may be missing the 1/10th inch 10 ring in the center of the bull. The target is best edge scored, but it is generally considered the most challenging BR target in existence. An "X" is only awarded when the bullet hole competely takes out the ten ring - literally, dead center. The pic below shows more detail.

OK, I see. That is a USBR target. The 2014 Huntsman Senior Games used the IBS target. This year I believe they will use the USBR target. I learned recently that there is still another sanctioning organization for .22 benchrest, the RBA, Rimfire Benchrest Association. Weird. I can only guess that the existence of at least three different sanctioning organizations is due to politics within the sport. Last Sunday I competed in a Schuetzen benchrest match, two 10 shot targets at 100 yards with a .22, and two at 200 for centerfire. Since I don't have a qualifying centerfire Schuetzen rifle, I shot the same Winchester 1885 .22 at 200, and my best target was this one, score 237. The center bull is 1.5", .75 MOA. Came in second at 100 yards, fourth at 200, and third overall. I love shooting long range with the .22 rimfires. It was fun to hold my own at 200 with a .22 against the centerfires. Paul

One of these days I need to do a serious comparison accuracy test of my 452 against the 1885. I'm not sure which would come out on top. It'd be close.
I certainly have a lot fewer $$ in the 452.

Eye-balled one of those at Sportsman's the other day. Seemed like a lot of gun for $299 for a munchkin.

The CZ's can be amazing for the price. I traded my BSA Martini model 12 away, and bought a CZ 452 Silhouette, haven't been to a long range range yet but a 50 yards 5 are at or under 1/2" depending on the ammo. Looks promising for 100+. When I cold see the iron peeps the BSA was MOA and better for 10 at 100 yards. At the longer ranges it is the wind...

It is too bad the 452 have been mostly replaced with the 455. I was recently perusing the cz-usa online and noting there were a very few of the 452 options still offered. The scout was one.
That Scout, looked like a pretty nice little gun if it only had an adult stock option. The pull is too short but also too much drop.
I have seen Scouts pictured online where owners had them set in CZ American stocks or one of the adult hump back stocks. IMHO, The for arms are way dis-porpornately to long with that stubby short barrel.
Boy, it does look like a lot of potential for a grown up hunter with the right stock. I do mean wood stock.
Also like to say, wise decision to buy now while this model is still made on the 452 platform.

Had this MiniSniper for about 12 years...sold it last year to a close friend who has an up and coming grandson... Added sling swivel studs, Weaver K10 scope, slipon recoil pad and a Cabelas lace on cheek piece... 100 yards with Federal Bulk...the shot to the right was a sighter and then the scope was clicked 1 moa left... The 452/453 series are my favorite .22 rifles ever... Bob

I have the 452 training rifle... with a 25 inch barrel.. paid $199 for it new... has over 30,000 rounds down the barrel and is still a tack driver.... had a 6 x 24 scope on top of it, because it is accurate enough to take advantage of it. I love it, and will get it out of the closet when 22 LR is available at a reasonable cost once again... if ever...
Neighbor had one for his kid I thought was pretty darn cool... it was the little short scout model, he had a 1 x 4 power shotgun scope on top and a laser sight for a pistol under the barrel in front of the stock...
definitely a handy set up for wasting pesky varmints in the yard...

I've also got a CZ Scout that I bought for ME!
I installed a 1" pad to make the LOP fit better for me, mounted a Leupold 4X rimfire scope, and had a yo Dave trigger kit installed.
This is a GREAT little quick handling "porch" gun for guarding my bird feeders.(GRIN!)

The Scout was my older boy's first rifle, and he's put it to good use.
