I've been racking my brain trying to figure out which scope I will put on this rifle when it comes in. I've already marked 3 brands off of my want list, Leupold, Vortex, and Swarovski. I have been thinking about the Zeiss HD5, Nightforce SHV, and Meopta. What other scopes are out there that will compliment this rifle (260 Rem Stainless fluted MRC Extreme X2) that I may have overlooked? Most of my hunting will be thick woods to max 300 yd shots where I hunt.

How many X's are you pondering?

If I may - the SHV seems a rather peculiar option for a thick woods to 300 yard max rifle. But you've only got to please you. smile

The SHV model I'm looking at is the 3-10x42.

I know, like a broken record, but VX3 2.5-8X36 sure comes to mind. Fairly sleek platform calls for fairly sleek optics IMO. 2.5X in the thick woods- good to way beyond the 300 stated; what's not to like?

For your needs, I think some of the others might be a better choice. The SHV is a 20-ish oz scope with mediocre (at best) hunting reticle offerings.

It does have decent glass but with no need to touch the turrets (300yd max), I'd be inclined to look elsewhere. But again, you've only got to please you.

The HD5 2-10 with the Z-Plex should garner a lookie. I'd put a VX3 2.5x8 back on the list but that's just me. laugh

My choice, too and with a CDS.

But if Leupy is off the list, think about a Conquest 3-9x40. They have a prominant duplex and really good glass, both handy in dim light.

The Meopta MeoPro 3-9x40 is very close and a good scope.

The last Conquest I bought was around $350 or so. Lots of glass for the buck.

I have two 2.5-8s, and two Trijicon 3-9 Accupoints. Just bought another Accupoint from a 'fire brother that should be here next week. For my money, the Trij is lightweight (1.6 ounces heavier than the Leupy), has better glass, is a solid, reliable, dependable scope and the illuminated dot is a great advantage in low light (deep woods) conditions.

If your an Eastern deer hunter hunting on large green patches, fields and powerlines the last 10 minutes of the day I would stick with 3-9x40 or 3.5-10x40. Of your choices I would go with a Conquest.

I've got several different ones but for the performance/money the meoptas are at the top of the list in my book. I've got a meopro and meostar and don't think you could go wrong either way.

+1 on the Meopta's. The Minox series has been good for me as well.

Mine will most likely get a 2.5-8x36 Leupold, as I think it matches almost perfectly to a short action deer hunting rifle. I reserve the right to change my mind and use a 6x36.
