While looking for a .308 ruger I stumbled on to Remingtons mountain dm..even though it's 100 bucks higher I liked it alot..it's available in .30-06,.280,270...if given the choice which caliber would you chose?? I have a .30-06 I no nothing about the .270 or the .280...I was thinking about the .280 cause it's between the .270 and .30-06...being it's a 7mm reloading would increase it's ammo choices...
what do yall think?? it's also available in 7m08...but isn't that a shorter version of the .280 like comparing a .30-06 to a .308

I bought one in 260 Rem a couple of months ago. It,s a nice rifle for the money, is very accurate. Moderate recoil. I wanted something a little more than 243 Win for deer. Lots of bullets available too.

The mountain rifle is a sweet rig, I curretnly own one in 260 rem, the DM variety, previously owned an LSS in the same calibre. Personally i wouldbuy the LSS version, it's about $50 mroe and is only a few oz heavier, but looks great. I am partial to shortaction calibres in light rilfes. I would like to own one in 7-08, I find recoil can be a bit much and the barrels heat up fast in calibres that burn alot of powder.
Life's too short to hunt with an ugly gun.

I agree....the LSS Mtn is one heck of a nice rifle. I prefer it over the DM any day. I also agree with the short-action idea, however own both a 30-06 model and a .260 model. The 30-06 has substantial recoil for what I enjoy, but isnt horrible. I think if you're set on the 3 choices, I personally like the .280.......

The DM model is about the sleekest looking rifle on the market, I think. .30-06 would assure you of always getting some kind of ammo for it and increase the versatility of the rifle. http://www.remington.com/products/firear...in_DM_specs.asp The LSS is good looking, too, but I'm not partial to the laminated stock and silvery finish combo. That's just me. http://www.remington.com/products/firear...n_LSS_specs.asp The traditional look in the .30-06 would be my choice. Good luck. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />
