I'm stuck between the ruger African and guide gun, I don't know how much speed would be loos between the 23 and 20" barrels or even the muzzle blast difference. Some people say they don't like the laminate stock on the guide gun but I don't find it that bad, also has any one run there 20" 375 ruger threw the chronograph?

With a good bullet, nothing you hit with it will complain about any reduced velocity

I'm hoping they make a compact 375 on the american platform. The ruger American African. Probably won't shoot.

Ruger Afro-American!......not sure I'd want one....bad juju!
Xbolt......get the one that handles and carries best for you as neither you nor the beast will know the difference in barrel length and velocity at hunting ranges.

I just want to know if it actually matches 375 hh ballistics in a 20" barrel or it's all just a marketing job.

My Ruger Alaskan shoots 270 grain Hornady handloads with RL15, not max charge, at 2650 fps. Very pleasant to shoot. Never chronographed a factory load. I might add the 20" barrel is very handy for packing.

The Ruger is the real deal, but there ain't nothing wrong with the H&H either. (And that Ruger is one nice little package compared to most H&Hs.... which is why I just took a Stanley hack saw to my M70 and lopped 3" and a few ounces off the end of it.)

My Ruger Alaskan shoots a 250 grain Barnes TTSX with H-380 at 2772 FPS, almost one hole accurate and like Swede said very pleasant to shoot. This is not a max load load, I'm sure I can get it faster. Just a great rifle to carry and hold.

I haven't shot an elk with mine in a few years, so last fall I took it out deer hunting. Nailed a big 4x4 whitetail buck at about 170 yds as he chased a doe up the opposite ridge from me. Put that big Hornady pill through the lungs, the buck ran side hill for about 40 yds and piled up. Very nice blood trail to follow.

Love my Ruger Alaskan. Shot a moose with 250gr TTSX last fall, blew right through the neck and, obviously, bang flopped him. 83.5 of H4350 at about 2750 fps.

75 Gr of RL15 with a Barnes 270TSX at 2845 fps stacks them all day. Amazing accuracy out of my MRC/Lilja build. 3 Shot Group from this fall.

I just want to know if it actually matches 375 hh ballistics in a 20" barrel or it's all just a marketing job. ............Have the Ruger Alaskan.....Either way anyone wishes to spin things, a 20" barreled 375 Ruger can and does in fact match 24" barreled 375 H&H velocities.....No marketing hype. The 375 Ruger case simply has more powder capacity than does the 375 H&H case by about 8 to 9 grains. No mystery there. Below is a link to a 2007 article by Jeff Quinn. Test rifle was a 23" barreled Ruger African. Note the 20 or so handloadings and the chrony results. Using his suggested favorite powder for the 375R namely H4350, I worked up a max loading of H4350 for my Alaskan. I can ship from the muzzle of my 20" Alaskan a 270 gr Hornady averaging 2792 fps and a 225 gr Hornady at slightly over 3K fps using RL15. www.gunblast.com/Ruger-Hawkeye375.htmNow if you can handle a 23" barreled 375R, then you should be able to handle a 20" barreled one. Side by side during the same range session using the same handloads, I fired both my Alaskan and a friends 375R African. I did not notice any differences concerning muzzle blast. What I did notice however, was that my Alaskan had a little less recoil. The Hogue stock on the Alaskans absorb some of the recoil. Go after the rifle you like the best whether it be the shorter barrel or the longer one and let the velocity chips fall where they may. NO game will know the difference if hit with either. Your velocity loss from the shorter tube, if that is what you choose,,,,,,,wont matter in the least.
