Sorry I don't have a great recipe to share right now, but I do want to pass the word on a great tea I just tried tonight. I learned about it a few weeks ago when Wrangler John chimed in on a tea discussion. The tea is called Lapsang Souchong. Goofy name I'll admit, but it's the most kick azz tea I've ever experienced. I read a review somewhere that it's a the tea for the single malt and cigar guys, and I'd agree. I'd say it's also for reformed coffee drinkers who think most tea is a weak excuse for a hot beverage. But without getting too carried away while operating without a poetic license, this tea is like a late fall elk camp in a wall tent with two feet of snow, or a small scout fire to warm up from a cold day of steelhead fishing, or warming up near the fireplace in a dark smoky cabin that's been in the family a hundred years. In short, if it was possible to put all of your favorite outdoor experiences and memories into a hot glass, you'd be drinking this tea. Drinking my first pint while sitting on the couch tonight(and why I'm still up at 12:40) felt like I'd just learned a very well kept secret. I NEVER imagined a tea could taste like this. I drank my first pint straight, and don't think I'll add any milk, and definitely no sweetener. Doctoring this tea would probably do it an injustice. I realize this thread already seems a little out there, so I'll just close by saying this tea makes the strongest statement possible, and you'll either love it or hate it. There's no chance for ambiguity here! HERE is the specific tea I bought. I can't speak to the other brands out there.

I first experienced the smokey goodness of Lapsang Souchong at a Chinese restaurant in Miami. When I got home, I went online, and found a source, Adagio Tea, and have been enjoying it ever since. I add sugar or honey, but no milk.

Does one have to wear a Snuggie while drinking this magic elixir? Tear up your man card and go to bed for crying out loud.

I actually deleted a couple sentences because was getting a little carried away in my late night tea fueled stupor. I vaguely remember typing something about an aromatic portal to pleasant memories.............or something like that. I think deleting them was smart, before I started embarrassing myself.

Lapsang Souchong is an excellent tea. Yessir, and it is no wimpy tea either! If someone likes smoky single-malt Scotch whiskies, they will probably like this tea. John

Double Yup..................and it needs to be sipped in a similar matter. This is "sippin' tea," and not because of the temperature.
I can't understand why it's not more widely known and available.

I just checked Wikipedia and found that Lapsang Souchong was Winston Churchill's tea. I suppose few other teas could stand up alongside his whiskey and his cigars! In any case guys, we are in good company! John

BTW, I always understood that he drank a quart of gin a day, not whisky.................carried a Govt. Model 1911 in his coat pocket during WWII.

* Tastes like pine smoke and bacon with some dark stone fruit Heck Yeah! I can't emphasize the pine smoke aroma and taste enough. I just hauled some gear to my den where I've got some pine tar and pine tar soap sitting on the bench. I immediately dialed in on the scent as very similar to the tea, where normally I'd just take the smell for granted or it wouldn't even register. This tea makes an impact!

You got me doing even more research and it seems we are both correct! Churchill liked gin. He did not like vermouth. He said "I would like to observe the vermouth from across the room while I drink my martini.” This gave birth to the "Churchill Martini”, which is little more than gin poured over ice while vermouth is present in the same room. Talk about an extra-dry martini! He also drank Scotch whisky... and claret, and brandy and loved champagne. LINK: How to drink like Winston Churchill John

My review definitely suffered from late night caffeine induced wordiness, but the tea really is that remarkable IMO.
If you're a light beer and wine spritzer type, you won't like this tea.
