Does anyone make a LH 17 Hornet?

I've got a bad itch I'd like to scratch.

Or a Ruger #1 would do but I don't see that in the future.

Cooper makes one for about $2300, or you can get a rifle barrel for a T/C Contender for $300.

Thanks for the info. And I like your re-barreling concept. I've got a Ruger#1 in 22 Hornet that I might re-barrel to a 17 Hornet. It may be the least expensive way to go and I'm a big fan of #1's.

You might research that a bit further, your .22 Hornet #1 might be worth a good amount of $$$ kept in original form. You might be money ahead selling it outright and picking up a donor in a more common caliber to rebarrel or a Ruger #3 would work also.
The cheapest route would be a drop in barrel for a T/C Contender carbine. Ed's Contenders has MGM .17 Hornet barrels for $295. Would make a neet light weight varminter.

You may want to check with ER Shaw as well. I don't see the 17 Hornet listed but they might be able to put one together for you.

Douglas will install a 17 Hornet barrel for me.

I'm hoping that the rifle in 17 Hornet and an extra barrel in 22 Hornet will make the package attractive to some buyers.

In the meantime, I'll be shooting prairie dogs with my 17 Hornet.

It would be neat if one of the annual No. 1's (which are all "special runs" now) would appear in .17 Hornet. Of course, they'd cost quite a bit--and would probably only go up in price the next year!

Thanks for the perspective and I too would love to see a #1 in 17 Hornet. But I can't depend on it. Having the handicap of being left handed, I don't have very many options.

I still think that my best chances of getting a 17 Hornet for a lefty are to convert my #1 22 Hornet to a 17 Hornet. Wish it were otherwise, but I don't think it is very likely. And I'll be spending a lot less money on the conversion than I would on a new #1.

I've had my eyes peeled for one for a while now. I believe I will (provided I can ever find one) buy a LH A-Bolt in 22 Hornet and have it re-barreled.
Not the least expensive way but better than a Cooper (single shot) and less than a NULA.

That's the trick lately, finding one for sale.

It's been over a year since I've seen one.

Yeah, if I ever shoot out the barrel of my 1B .22 Hornet, it will probably become a .17. But soo far I haven't been able to do that, no matter how hard I've tried!

Any of you lefty/#1 or whatevers want to step up to the big dog?
I'm going to give up one of my long time/no use loves !

We have a lot of quality barrel blank makers here in the states. Pretty nice huh?

I have had good luck with Shilen blanks, and the BarrelMan offers those at a good price.

The Shilen #4 taper will lay in a No.1B forearm nicely. If you have a No.1A, then choose the #2 taper if wood originality is on the mind.

The No.1 can become a type of switch barrel affair, but of course the quarter rib screws/rib has to be removed to clear the forearm hanger. On the light calibers, I sometimes will just make the studs cosmetic. With a second barrel the original barrel can always be replaced at a later date, just gotta have a decent barrel vise and flat action wrench.

I have used 218 bee's and 22 hornet donors for conversion to 17 calibers, but the nice thing about the No.1 is that any caliber within a series will do the trick, and if planned out, without forearm mods. I have to agree that a smallish 17 rimfire or centerfire is a fun No.1 to have.

Not much outlay really, the blanks in the 200 range and then your labor. Donors are getting more expensive to the funny money syndrome, but can still be found in the 600 range if needbe. Of course, 600 is real money; and cash still talks.

I do not have the new commercial 17 hornets, but the old 17 KHornet is close and is a honey.

The No.1 is a favorite here too.

One factor I should have mentioned is that I have a LH original Kimber that is very accurate so I can afford to change my #1 22 Hornet to a 17 Hornet without losing another great 22 Hornet.

I'll be sending the #1 22 Hornet to Douglas this week and should get it back in about 4 weeks. I'll file a report on the accuracy of the 17 Hornet when I've taken it to the range.
