Shop owner likes the heavier Ruger to "see" the hits. But said the CZ single set trigger is hard to beat. I'm inclined towards the Ruger and work with the trigger to get it under 3 pounds.
Your thoughts?

Made in America, flush mag, normal safety and an easy-to-tune trigger. Unless a guy is from Schleppo-shlob-bah-kia(and backassward)I see no advantages in the Cz other than the set trigger.

I like the CZ sporter but I don't think you can go wrong with either. Course,,, everyone knows the biggest threat to America's economy and our way of life is the huge influx of Czech made products. PS,,,, if the safety boggles you,,, you probably shouldn't be handling firearms.

You won't have any trouble seeing the hits with either rifle, even with the CZ sporter, there really is no recoil with the .17hornet.

If a guy can't "see the hits" with a light weight 17 hornet, he really needs to learn how to shoot with his eyes open.
cz varmint all the way mine is a tack driver
as is mine. Love it with the suppressor.

I have owned both. I still have the CZ. They just plain shoot.

I am a big Ruger fan as well, but my .17 Hornet is a CZ 527 varmint-weight. It really isn't all that heavy, weighing 8 pounds 10 ounces with a 4-12x scope, but because of the heavier barrel the balance point is just ahead of the magazine, which makes it handy to carry in the field.
I don't mind the "backward" safety because my first rifle with ANY safety (instead of an outside hammer or cocking piece) was a Marlin 81 .22 rimfire, which also has a safety that pulls back to "shoot" position, which seemed normal to me because that's how a hammer or cocking piece works. (Still have the 81, by the way, and warm it up now and then.)
I also really like the single-set trigger, though the pull isn't quite as good as the double-set trigger on my Brno .22 K-Hornet.

A Doe walks out of the woods today and says, that is the last time I'm going to do that for Two Bucks.

Well the Ruger came home today. Will get a range session in tomorrow with some Hornady factory stuff to start with. If a couple of sessions are real bad, I can always move to the CZ.

You are very observant. Didn't care for the Ruger and the centerfire BB gun. A little horse trading and I'm back into a .204 - a Sako Varmint. My combo now is a pair of CZ 17 HMR's, a Belgium Browning T-Bolt, Tikka .223 and now the Sako .204.. Now I need to point the truck west.................
Always liked the .204 and I have every confidence the Sako will not disappoint.
Ordered some Nosler blem brass and will be working with about 28gr of Varget with 32 V-Max and 35 Bergers. Called Chris at Talley and have steel SS bases with blued rings heading this way. Got a box of Horn brass to start things off. Have a 4.5-14x40 sitting on the shelf - just waiting.

Well I expected more guidance than that. My first ever real Sako in all the dozens of rifles over 40 years. We'll see..................

I guess we all have different wants and needs in firearms and calibers, mine sometimes change as often as the weather too but, I really like the 17 hornet. I'd have to say it was my favorite on our recent (and first) pdog shoot. The 204 will give you more explosive results! Will

IIRC, the mag box may be too short for some bullets with the CZ 22H. Look into it more though...
