So I had this old Redfield # 70 (I believe) receiver sight for a 94 just laying around. Needed a rifle underneath it. So I picked up this '53 vintage carbine today for a good price. Some dolt had spilt coke on the right side of the receiver. Otherwise the mechanics and bore are clean and sound. The old rear sight insert was mangled for some reason too. I figgered it a good candidate for my sight! Voila!!! New south Texas pick up rifle! Nice shooter you picked up! .30wcf?

A nice older steel Lyman 66 would look good too. The older steel Lyman sights were great. Very good quality. I have one of the subsequent ones....aluminum i believe. You can still get some older used steel ones in good/great shape on the net. Be prepared to pay a bit for them however. I also have an all steel Redfield peep the less expensive model and several Williams 5D,s. Somewhat difficult to zero, but are rugged units.

Thanks compadre! Yeah that front sight jumps out like a new dime in a goats butt! Points really nice. See it real good. I need serious range time need to shoot this new one. As well as another 94 and my 64. All have peeps! I have a Redfield Sourdough front sight and a Lyman #56A on a 1949 vintage 94 carbine in 25-35. When I got it, it had a huge white bead front sight that was about useless beyond 100 yards and totally useless when hunting snow covered ground in northern New England. Hard to beat the 64s, sadly so few people under age 40+/- appreciate the Winchester 94s and most have never seen, shot, or even heard of a 64. PS - At one time, probably pre-WW2, Lyman sold a peep sight insert with a gold(?) ring around the outside of the insert that really drew the eye. Mostly, I just leave the inserts at home when I'm hunting and save them for the range.

My 64 When someone mentions "deer rifle" to me this is the first thing that pops into my mind! 260 Remguy, I remember we had those gold ring Lyman apetures still in store stock in the 1980's!

I have a "real" 64, a carbine in 25-35, and an "almost" 64, an NRA Commemorative rifle. When I was a kid, hunting in northern New England, there were still more old-timers shooting 71s than there were anybody shooting 64s.

Not a very good pic but I cobbled this one together into a pretty good shooter. One of the new Lyman tang sights. 1907 receiver. 1938 dated postal stamped barrel. 30wcf. Some dolt hammered out barrel retainer band making the dovetail useless. So I found a Mag cap for a model 64 and a little mill and MIG work. Had me a button mag Hunter!

I bought a couple of tang sights and got rid of them shortly there-after. They interfered with where I wanted my hand to be.
Lyman, Williams, and old Redfield sights all work. I use old Lyman and old Redfield sights. But I think those skinnersights look very nice and would buy one if I didn't already have aperture sights on my Marlins.
I prefer classic. Semper Fi I used to run with the hare. Now I'm envious of the tortoise and I do my own stunts but rarely intentionally
