I think that cartoon would be a takeoff of the Newfies. Trouble is, a lot of Newfies I've known, don't seem to have that particular accent.
We have a bunch of guys at work, from western Ireland however, they definitely show where the Newfie accent originated. I keep teasing the one guy that the Irish must be reject Newfies.

Trouble wuz that they were all different accents and it appeared even the Newfies couldn't understand each other at times! grin Our Man from Conche had a particularly indecipherable accent! Newfies are friggin' AWESOME folks grin

Dave;
Salud my cyber friend, I trust this finds you and yours well.

Your strategy appears to be indeed sufficiently sound as apparently it's working for you thus far.

The question at the heart of the matter however sir is this - would you read what one typed? wink

All the best to you folks Dave - have a grand weekend.

Dwayne

I was there last summer. Seems to me the Newfie accent falls somewhere between Maine and Britain.

Very different sound from the rest of Canada, eh?

Probably because Newfoundland was never a part of Canada until March 31, 1949.

Dwayne,

I actually forgot you were a foreigner.

I should have typed "I don't listen to anything a foreigner says (except Dwayne) anyway."

My bad.

Brits from some parts of the UK do that as well. If asked "Did you take that?", they answer "I didn't, did I?". Or "have you been to the pub/" They answer "Yeah, I went, didn't I?"

Top of the morning to you sir, I trust the day is treating you and yours acceptably well.

I happen to work with a chap who immigrated from Great Britain to Canada whereupon he joined the Navy and was stationed a good long time in Newfoundland.

Whatever it is he speaks, it's assuredly not decipherable English at times! laugh

While I've said this before, it bears repeating that while I'm sure there must be grumpy Newfoundlanders out there, I've yet to meet one and that goes for my coworker too. Couldn't find a more pleasant chap to spend a day working beside.

All the best to you and yours this weekend sir.

Dave;
Thanks kindly for the reply sir, it's good to see you're up and firing on all cylinders.

As you know about me, my direct lineage comes from very close to the Havre/medicine line part of the world - so it's my considered opinion and theory that's why you understand at least a portion of the gibberish I produce. wink

On another note I saw a circus bear yesterday in the neighborhood - was working on the water system that feeds our collective area - anyway at first I thought it was a Red Setter - interesting color phase anyway Dave.

Have a good one sir and thanks for trying to decipher my meandering trains of thought.

Dwayne man!

I'm still the worst bear hunter in the history of bear hunting. But shall try again next week.

If you ever cross the line into freedom, you need to stop in and shoot this thing:

Yeah right. You [bleep] end every single sentence as a question.

We, do not.

Stick to speaking France-talk because your version of english fuggin' sucks.

The 'you know' thing is a particular pet peeve of mine.

If I knew, you wouldn't need to be telling me.....

Canadians really are smarter than people from the US.

After all, every student is an "Eh?" student.

I am a conservative with a lowercase "c".
