I just picked up a pair of 8x42 wind river binos that say imported by Leupold. Also says porro-CF Field 6.5* Are these still under the Leupold warranty ? I have never seen the imported by Leupold on a pair of binos, who made them for Leupold? If they are I will send them back in and have them do a once over and check them out. Thought they would be nice for the truck or backpack.

Yes they are still covered by the Leupold warranty, but if memory serves, the Wind River Series or Green Ring as some call them doesn't have as good of a warranty as the Golden Ring optics, but either way, my opinion is that Leupold will take care of you.
During the earlier years of these binos, they were made in Japan by LOW (Light Optical Works); LOW is a well respected manufacturer. Again if memory serves, production was shifted from Japan to China a few years later.
Hopefully someone with a little better memory or insight will be along shortly.

These don't have a gold or a green ring. They are just black with gold letters.

Got a pic? There are a couple of different models. Porros or roofs?

I'd assume porros judging by the second sentence of his post.

Thanks Dan- or should I say Cap't. Obvious. I missed that. I had a pair of the WR Pinnacles roofs in 8x42 and while I loved the feel and size of them they were finicky to get behind. I replaced them with a clunky pair of Bushnell Legends for less than a third the price and am much happier. The Porros are a lot brighter and I like the view better. I have a friend who bought the WR porros and I would like to compare them against the Legends. In another thread I asked anyone if they had compared their pricier roofs against porros- as yet no takers. I love the idea of a roof but wonder how much I gotta spend to get a similar view. For walking about I have had the Yosemites and loved them- but gave them to a b-i-l and bought the Eagle\Vortex 6.5x32.
