I will admit to having ventured over to a Gibson on more than one occasion but I'll not admit any other intentional Martini indiscretions.
Many's the drink I've sent back because of some miscreants malicious contamination of my Martini with such as a "twist" or, worse, a "wedge" of citrus. These extra favors are most often a gift from an unknowing server and not normally from the mixologist.
I do enjoy Gin and Tonic or Gin and Squirt and even Gimlets from time to time. But when I order my Martini's I just get all uppity and fussy about them.
But, if I have anything to drink today it will likely be Bud Light.
Go figure.

I love a good "dirty" vodka martini. I will not support the french swill (although very good) and prefer to support my Grandmother's homeland of Poland. Luksusowa is a very good mid-priced vodka as is Skyy and Svedka. I personally think Absolute has the best marketing and one of the worst vodka's. Smirnoff should be used for antiseptic.
Try the bleu cheese stuffed olives in your vodka martini's. It is like an appetizer with your drink <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

While Grey Goose is my favorite, the Polish vodka brand Belvedere is also quite good. Any Vodka must be ice cold. Any one ever have a chocolate martini? I tried one and it wasn't bad. Not something I would order regularly but pretty good. I think it's made with Godiva liquor and vanilla Stoli. Ii never have liked the taste of Gin so it's vodka or nothing.

For me a Dry Martini is a double of Bombay Saphire in a frozen glass and simply say the word "vermouth" over it.

During a coastal winter storm where the rain blows horizontal past the picture window I like to substitute Brandy for the gin and add a slosh of dry vermouth and a couple of olives. It holds the cold at bay.

PS 4 is the maiximum martinis in one evening......3 is very nice 4 puts you into stupid catagory.
Famed wit & poet Dorothy Parker penned this ode to Martinis back in the 1930's: I like a dry martini Two at the very most Three and I'm under the table Four and I'm under the host.

I have sampled vodka 'martinis' a time or two, but don't care for them. My basic/traditional martinis are made with Tanqueray or Bombay Sapphire gin, 'frozen'. Four ounces of gin over clean ice cubes (made from good filtered water or mineral water), four to six drops of Cinzano dry vermouth (I use a washed-out Angostura bitters bottle for my vermouth dispensing), shake for ten seconds, then pour into two chilled glasses. Add two pimento-stuffed olives, medium size, and from the top half of a reasonably fresh jar.
Martinis are best poured in pairs... it's hard to get it right with only one, and besides, the martini was the original cocktail or social drink... it's meant to be shared!

The one and true Martini drinker was Winston Churchill. All others are mearly 'want to be's. Sir Winston's recipe for the perfect Martini was to pour a pint or so of gin into a pitcher or a big glass, and think fondly of Italy. Jim
