Welcome to the forum. If you can describe the forend shape, Pistol grip or not, take-down or solid, and address on barrel some of the experts can help. Pictures are great. This site http://www.savage99.com/ has some info on the characteristics of different models.

Everything you now do is something you have chosen to do. Some people don't want to believe that. But if you're over age twenty-one, your life is what you're making of it. To change your life, you need to change your priorities.

How bout a description?

Give me the serial number or part of it (at least the first three).

Take down model or solid frame?

Barrel length? Checkered or non checkered?

You sure you're not thinking about savageshooters Ron? I just ran a number at savage99 and it didn't cost a penny.

Yeah, it is a pretty secondary site. Maddog and Les are trying to make something out of it though. I wish them luck.

Mr. Furious might take some offense to that , it is a good sight if you want to know the ins-and-outs of the Savage bolt action too, the guys over there know their stuff. Les

Guess he'll just have to live with it just as I've got to live with being bald and fat. Since the main interest on this board is the M1899/99 and since the only intelligent life on his Savage lever board is you and Maddog it doesn't make for a very lively nor informative forum. Kinda like playing two handed poker. You two do get the "E" for effort though.

228xxx would be a 1920 production. Where did you get your info (1940)...or is it xxx228?

There are over 20 versions of the 1899/99 so it takes a little work but we can figure it out. Schnobel foretip or rounded?

Go to:
http://www.savage99.com/

Schnabel forend?
Pistol Grip...straight grip?

394XXX is probably 1940.

If this rifle has all matching serial numbers....no chips gouges in wood...excellent bore...not drilled for a scope...my best advice:

Sell it to me immediately.
