After disassembling my 303 I find the barrel is marked on the bottom with the description off with and arrow. Is this the same as a Take down?

Yep, takedown barrel. See them on various solid frames in the 30's sometimes. I have a 99R in 300 Savage with one.

In other words, Savage put a takedown barrel on a fixed barrel rifle. They were using up old stock or maybe they were overstock in takedown barrels.

Or maybe they just felt like it! "Hey Boss, why are we putting these TD barrels on those solid frame rifles?" "Because I want to give those schmucks on the Savage forum 80 years from now something to wag their tongues about!" grin
