A while back I had the opportunity to talk to Dale Howe about some of the blade styles and scale materials that I like.

[Linked Image]

I've long been a fan of the Green River Buffalo Skinner, and I also like carbon steel.

I had recently acquired a knife from Rick Menefee that had rams horn scales. I like the texture and durability of rams horn.

I asked Dale if he had ever worked with 3V, and if he would consider something along the lines of a buffalo skinner inspired blade shape out of 3v with rams horn scales.

Well lo and behold when I got back from the lease, this little beauty was waiting at the P.O. Box

The ambidexterous cross draw is my favorite for carry

The red liners and the way Dale grinds and polishes give a translucence to the scales that is finer than frog's hair.

Thanks Dale,

can't wait to use it to skin a Just Perforated Porker.

Best,

GWB

I've been impressed with 3V so far. Takes and holds a very refined edge. Will be interested to see what you think after long term use on hog butchering. That in combination with the ramshorn should make for a great hog butchering package.

Dale

BTW,

ever fish for bass with worms.......

[Linked Image]

just toss it out, let it settle, give a little tug and a slight tweak of the rod tip, wait a bit, then repeat. Ol' Mr. Bass comes along and takes a look, sometimes gets excited, you twitch the bait, he mouths it for a sec, then he runs. When he runs ya' set the hook. Guys that don't have much experience try to set the hook too soon and end up yankin' the worm and lose the fish.

Just sayin'

Thanks for the comments, and yes I built the sheath. I'm trying to make time to build my own sheaths more often lately. I'll still have Larry Parsons build the fancy ones for anyone that wants 'em as he's the best I know, but for a utility sheath, I'm trying to put my own together as much as possible from now on.

Dale is being modest, as is his wont.

[Linked Image]

In most applications there are consumer grade, commercial grade and industrial grade products.

[Linked Image]

Dale's sheaths are "industrial grade"

[Linked Image]

He uses quality leather that is 10 to 12 oz (most likely 12 oz on my two). The welts are generous. One will not have to worry about slicing fingers when drawing the knife from the sheath. The edges are finished well and on two of my three have edge coating. The stitches are close, straight, tight and flat. They'll prolly outlast my grandson's kids.

Dale's sheaths, mamby pamby they ain't.

Best,

GWB

PS: BTW, the sheaths and knives were pristine when I got them. Any scratches were the result of the user.

SH,

I was about 14 when I first saw her.........

[Linked Image]

I didn't know a lot about sex,

but I sure was interested.

Been lookin' intersted for almost another 50 years. LOL

I figure it kinda works the same way with blades and firearms.

GWB
