I killed all the same sort of schit growing up in the Midwest.

BB guns in corn cribs for hours on end. The mice would run and we'd pop 'em as they stopped. I don't know how many raccoons and pigeons we killed at night using nothing but a flashlight, a BB gun, and a T-ball bat.

As a kid I would sprinkle chicken feed on the rafters in the chicken house and then go back at night with my daisy and mag light and shoot the mice off my bait trails. Had to stop because mom sold the eggs and the nighttime disturbance messed with the hens egg production!

Wonder where my son gets it from?.....

FFA "pest control" contests were an annual deal in my home town when I was growing up. I'd hate to the think of the numbers of pests we killed. My favorite tool back then was a tennis racket, at night, guarding the door for any "fly by's" that might get missed by the pellet guns. Rubber bands around the pant legs, to keep the mice and rats from going up the inside of the pant leg.
Good times for sure...

Man those 140 Amax clobber stuff...

An hour ago it sounded like two angry elephants wrestling on the deck. It turns out to be a 16.25" rat in a trap I put under the bird feeder.

He could not resist the jam on a marshmellow.

Being retired, the dogs and I put in a difficult week of varmint control..

First: badger shot with .22-250 AI and 50 gr. BK..

Kate takes a serious interest in all the varmints we shoot.. She brought this p. dog back for a photo session.. CZ .22mag. and CCI 40 gr. HP.

Although we shot about 50 prairie dogs, this week we tried to stay focused on gophers..

Another Badger?
I have never got a badger:(

In 52 yrs living in Wisconsin, I saw one badger while shining deer and got one on the trail cam about 5 yrs ago. I dont know why they are protected here neither.

I've never shot a Badger. Had several opportunity's but after skinning one for a friend I decided the stench wasn't worth the few dollars they fetch..

Thanks.. I have my local Tax. skin mine.. He will do it for $15/ best money I ever spent.. I didn't have this one skinned.. Most of the ranchers demand you shoot them on sight.. I don't feel that way, but I also want to keep them happy.. So the badger got it.

I do however know how destructive they are so I can't blame the ranchers.

FG, I knew you were fine with it.. Just they are such a pretty animal when tanned.. I don't like shooting they unless I sell them or have them tanned.. On BLM they get a pass unless they are prime.. Got one this spring that was a dandy.. He is being tanned now..
Have to keep my hosts happy if I wish to return.. Have a good one, bet it is a nice night by the river..

Good job on the badger Wyo! Not much I dislike more than putting up a badger hide.... What a nasty deal. They sure can make a mess out of a nice coyote or bobcat set too....grin

My friend had a rug made out of the one I skinned for him.
Had the skull cleaned and sealed too.
Both are pretty cool.

MT I bet they would cause a mess in one's traps.. I have done a bit of trapping but not much..

FG Skulls are neat.. I have some bear, coyote, mt. lion and bobcat, but when I look them over, no badger.. Guess I will have to add that..

probably the same stupid reason they won't let you shoot ground hogs, legally.

The dogs were out in force today..... Warmed up the '.250's barrel nicely...









This little spot was chock full of them... Just about every mound that had a dog on it had two or more.
