Bought his S&W 41 that was advertised here. Upper is not original to gun and will not retract. Taking to my gunsmith today.

Emailed him several days ago when I looked the gun over closely and he hasn't replied. Obviously, he could not care less...

What a bum. By his postings appears he is here to take advantage of the cost-free feature of selling on this site.

Maybe he's out of town? Did you give him a call? I've had multiple dealings with Tim/hunthard as both a buyer and a seller and he is GTG. If there's an issue I have no doubt he would make it right.

I've only had one dealing with him but it went smooth.

Have to agree with the previous two posters. Tim has a very solid reputation on the forum and has been a very good guy any time I've talked with him. I will be very, very surprised if he's ignoring you on purpose or trying to screw you over.

I think he might work on the N. Slope. Probably 2 or 3 weeks at a time. Be patient.

I'd give it some more time. I've found him to be first class in our transactions.

Tim is GTG. Great guy and above board on the many deals we have done.

Hunthard bought some ammo from me. Payment got here quickly and communication was good.

I believe I queried that very subject, the originality of the upper. Don't recall seeing a reply... Oh well, another one to blow off. shocked

I've done a couple deals with him. No problems and would deal again.
Agree here with the others: I have had nothing but stellar experiences with Tim. Not to say the OP doesn't have a case, as I understand there is are sides to every story. He's living Alaska (I believe?) so hopefully noting happened to him while out and about. Hoping this all works out for both parties...

I bought a Kimber Mountain Ascent from him and have gone back and forth about a few other things and it was smooth as heck.

He's bought and sold a lot of items on here.

Personally, I think you're barking up the wrong tree here. I would bet if you gave it a few days he'd return your messages as soon as he received them. I understand you have some concerns but if you exercised a little patience I would bet he'll address them to your satisfaction.

I would certainly do biz with him anytime.

He's been on here frequently, including yesterday. Send him a PM.

HH is a quality guy, they get no better.
I've dealt with him both face to face and here many times and the guy always comes through.
And yes, Tim wheels and deals, but isn't about making money, the guy simply loves guns, gear and optics.
I know for a fact that he sells stuff at a loss.... I've bought some of that equipment!

Well, apparently he can post here (yesterday PM) but not answer my email of several days ago....good guy.....uh huh....

Turns out gun was simply filthy and is now working fine.....it has other issues which should have been disclosed but weren't....I'm chalking this up to a bad experience and will never buy from this seller again....
Posted By: prairie_goat Re: Sour deal w/ hunthard - 06/06/14
The ad for the pistol says nothing about the upper being original. In fact I took the wording to mean that it was not original.

These types of threads are really best handled with patience, a kind word, and PMs. The overwhelming majority are innocent life situations that clearly are more important than a simple transaction. I bought a pistol from a man last month, and didn't hear from him for days. Rather than cause a stink I decided to be patient. Guy calls me out of the blue and says he had kidney stones from hell; I can't fault the man for that. We met up and all went well.

Yep. There's a lot to be said for being patient.
I have bought many things from Tim over the past few years and would so again in a minute. He is a gear junkie and likes to upgrade his gear.

Not directed at anyone but it has been my experience over the last 5-6 years that some guys just aren't going to be happy no matter what you send them. All guns could use tweak here-there. I personally don't think HH had a second thought about shipping the gun as it was described. powdr

How are you sure your email went through to him? Email is about the least reliable forms of communication. At least via PM here, if he reads it, you can verify that it has been read.

You have no idea what your are talking about. Email will only bounce back to you in certain situations. It could easily be in his spam, or he could simply not check his email.

And I'll say it again.......the seller of the Sauer 202 got their asking price, so IMO, it's no ones business (including the seller's), what Hunthard did with that rifle or how much he asked for it.

Description, now that may have been a different matter.

And doesn't anyone else think it odd that the OP sold the pistol in question so quickly? That doesn't make one bit of sense to me.

Yep, the seller got their asking price and have full disclosure. Hunthard knew exactly what blemishes there were when he bought the gun yet did not give the same courtesy to others when he sold it a month later

https://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbth...Re_2_nice_bolt_guns_for_sale#Post6222070

I don't care that he tried to double his money but surely you can understand how it left a bad taste in people's mouths when he omitted pertinent details. If your going to buy and then resell on the campfire you had better mention the faults that were listed in the original ad

Like I said, may be a great guy but I'll never deal with him because of that. That was not a "great guy" move IMO

I thought about buying that 41 myself, even though it was no bargain. For the price paid it should have had a matching upper and no issues. Clearly the first buyer felt it wasn't worth the money and neither did the second. I won't be doing any business with hunthard going forward...

GreatWaputi, what would you be saying if Safariman that pulled this stunt? I will never do business with hunthard but my mind was made up a long time ago

Wasn't necessarily defending the guy, just that I don't have a problem with someone paying the asking price for an item and reselling for a profit if they choose to and as long as they represent it correctly (it appears that was the major issue in this case). I've done it and will probably do it in the future, as I'm always trying to stretch my $$$. Hope that makes sense.

And I agree 100%....posting someone's personal info online is bad form and should be saved as a last result for a deal gone bad (IE: when payment is sent and the seller falls off the face of the earth).

I think you guys know where I'm coming from.

This is one downside of an unmoderated forum. On most forums that info would be removed quickly.

On a moderated forum this whole thread wouldve been [bleep] canned and I wouldve been bored at work all day and never know anything about either party. Moderated forums are like having Democrats in office.....someone always trying to decide whats in my best interest.

They'll likely all disappear now - just as quickly as they rushed to the seller's defense...

There was a thread like this a while ago that really got steamrolling pretty good. Dogpile of epic proportions. Maybe 2 out the entire gaggle that got nasty with the OP actually manned up and ate some crow..the rest indeed had to go wash their truck or something...

It seems if you are a regular human being and not Amazon Prime you may not want to sell anything to the OP or without a doubt you risk being badmouthed on this forum.

I've always had good luck buying from forums from regular people with generally lower prices and more integrity - but not everyone ships the same day and almost nobody answers emails as fast as you would like when you have a question. A little patience and civility makes a difference.

Some folks apparently are only children whose Mamma's made sure they didn't have to play nice with others to get everything they wanted.

Nah! Unless you do shady stuff you shouldn't worry....

FAIRBANKS A Fairbanks sheep hunter was fined $500 for selling an old Dall sheep taxidermy mount to an undercover Alaska State Trooper on {elsewhere}.

Tim Dingey, 38, appeared in court Friday and pleaded guilty to illegally selling a big game trophy.

In a phone interview on Saturday, Dingey said he bought the mount for $400 at a garage sale seven or eight years ago, before he took up sheep hunting, and said he didnt know it was illegal to sell it. Dingey said hes preparing to leave the state and was getting rid of some things that didnt mean that much to me when he advertised the sheep mount on {elsewhere}.

I didnt realize that was illegal, he said.

When undercover Alaska Wildlife Trooper Ken Vanspronsen, who saw the post on {elsewhere}, showed up on Jan. 5 and offered $450 for the mount, Dingey agreed.

Then he pulls out his badge and pulls out the regulations and reads them to me, Dingey said. I didnt realize it was against the law. Ive seen plenty of stuff like that for sale on Craigslist.

Dingey said the mount was at least 30 years old and wasnt what youd consider a trophy.

The hair was falling out. The hair was discolored. It wasnt full curl, he said. It was something that was shot in the 70s.

But Vansrponsen said state law prohibits the sale of big game trophies in Alaska. That includes taxidermy mounts of heads, horns, antlers and skulls attached to antlers. Horns or antlers must be completely detached from the skull to be sold, the trooper said.

A sheep hunter himself, Dingey said hes embarrassed by what he called an honest mistake and was hoping Vanspronsen would give him a warning. He described himself as a law-abiding citizen and Iraq war veteran with a clean record who learned his lesson but said the trooper didnt want to hear anything about it.

I got my hand burnt and learned from it, Dingey said. Im not too happy about it. If I actually knew it was illegal, it would be like me putting marijuana for sale on {elsewhere}. Who would do that?

People selling big game trophies on {elsewhere} or eBay is unfortunately more common than you might think, Vanspronsen said. Troopers monitor both sites for possible illegal activity and also get calls from individuals who notice illegal postings, he said.

A huge number of transactions happen on this site and 99.9% work out fine because the sellers make an effort to describe any and all deficiencies or flaws - knowing that they are likely to be engaged in a distance transaction. Most sellers fall into this group. The other group hides condition issues and hopes the buyer won't bother with the expense or hassle of a return.

Hunthard seems to fall into this category. I'm guessing the first buyer of the 41 paid shipping both ways and maybe even FFL fees because the pistol wasn't as described. Then it was listed again with no additional condition info given and the OP sprung for it. Hunthard took advantage of the fact that two members assumed he was one of the good guys.

Describe your item well and provide lots of pictures and you'll have no problems.

My comment was kinda' tongue-in-cheek. I've bought and sold tons of stuff here. Only had 1 problem with a cracked forend on a Kimber. I resold it later and disclosed the cracks/splits. It should have been an easy fix, but I didn't want to mess with fixing it or haggling with the seller. Live and learn. And I didn't cry about it, either.

I see now, that I judged too quickly before all the evidence was available. Apologies to the OP for my quick judgement. A pox upon the 'distinguished' seller.

Here you go fellas. I cropped out the name of the member that sent this to me but it's pretty evident as to what happened.

Maybe Tim would like to explain how he got a medical retirement from the Army and then had to go back to active duty. I would like to hear his side of the story after what I was told today. Seems BIG27 is known on a few other boards

I have seen a lot of guys mention how great a guy Tim is over the years and I've kept my mouth shut until now. This guy isn't a class act and you shouldn't "buy with confidence" as some have suggested. This a-hole has two screen names and has screwed people using both handles. There is nothing I hate more than a guy that will knowingly screw somebody on a deal. This guy banks on the fact that people won't want to ship something back to him because it's expensive to ship to Alaska.

Another POS on ignore.

Wow, how things have changed on this board the last few years. Still LOTS of good folks, but SO MANY MORE classifieds cowboys.

It used to kinda be where almost everyone was here to actually shoot the $hit and participate in the forums. And maybe trade some stuff or sell some stuff at little to no profit, or even (knowingly) @ a loss. Now, there are a [bleep] ton of guys here simply looking to buy and sell. They take advantage of the members who actually would like another hunter/shooter to pick something up they can use for a good price. It is quite sickening to me at times. Unfortunately, not a lot you can do about it.

I MUCH prefer to deal with the guys who have been around, participate in the forums other than the classifieds, and who I know have the same basic intentions here as I do.

I would also like to add, although I am way wary of any "classifieds only" posters, I do know that not all of them are bad people or dishonest people. Some are perfectly GTG.

However, that being said, and at the risk of ruffling the feathers of some of the honest classifieds only posters, I cannot help but feel this place would be better without them. I just simply feel that a higher percentage of them are people I'd rather not deal with, as opposed to participating members who I am more familiar with.

I have conducted 100s of deals here. I have never gotten screwed one single time. I may have a thing or 2 I wasn't really super happy with, but not so much as to complain or ask for a refund. At least I cannot ever recall. I have never had a buyer complain or ask for a refund, either. Many guys here can make the same claim. Many.

These are the guys I prefer to deal with. This is as it should be. Too many good folks here. Not worth it to deal with one single a$$hole, even for a minute. I HATE reading the call out threads, because I really, really like to have faith in my fellow hunters/shooters. After all, the vast majority here are good dudes. However, I LOVE seeing a bad apple get tossed from the barrel. Don't let the douchenozzles ruin this place.

Reputation is everything. So is your word. A few extra bucks ain't worth it. Most here know this. For those that don't, go back and read it again.

Rant over.........

Then don't read it. I too get irritated with "non for sale" threads in the classifieds. But most are not even classifieds related.

This is a total different situation. It IS classifieds related, and threads like this are totally necessary if we wish to police our own site. If it keeps even one respectable member from getting taken advantage of by some POS, then it is MORE than worth it IMO......

Hunthard

I don't know Hunthard and I don't have a dog in this fight. I have done one deal with him that worked out well for me. The Postal Service had a glitch and he was very helpful in resolving the issue. I think if he was a scoundrel, he wouldn't have helped me out. In this case, he offered to give the money back, so there would be no harm if the OP had waited on a response and received a refund. I have not done a lot of deals on here but all of them have been good deals with great folks. I think he deserves the benefit of the doubt. I am sure he would handle things differently next time and it was likely a mistake. He has done a lot of deals on here and offered some interesting stuff. If you do a lot of deals, some are not going to go perfectly. It seems the vast majority if his deals have been good. Some of this info is not very flattering but I would buy from him again.

Wonder why he wouldn't ever return a call when he sold a grossly misrepresented rifle to another member under a different screen name. This guy is a scumbag plain and simple. It's not the good deals that will tell you about a mans character, it's the bad deals that tell you what you need to know

Hopefully he will chime in and let everybody know why he went back into the Army after being medically retired. Google is a bitch isn't it Tim especially when those google searches bring up all of the physically demanding hunts you go on

Sometimes in order to get something accomplished you have to take it public.

If somebody is fair and honest and sells something with an honest description there isn't a problem

You want to get medical retirement again so you can go hunt some more?

I'm not an internet tough guy and I don't have time to fly to Alaska but if you come to Colorado then look me up. I've had a few folks tell me they were going to whip my ass but they've never followed through and you won't either so STFU and quit screwing people on gun deals.

You'll post up a mans personal info that you screwed over and you'll act tough and threaten me with a size 12 shoe, which is comical as I wore a size 12 shoe when I was 11, yet you won't take the money you allegedly want to use to buy me a plane ticket to refund money to the OP or even take the opportunity to offer an apology to the man. Classless but I had that figured out a long time ago

I don't like riding the bus and I'd prefer to drive to Alaska.

So ... Can I get some gas money for saying the right words?

$10.00 is enough to get to, and back, from Windsor.

Any takers? grin

Afternoon 24 campfire .

I just think it's real funny how people are 10 ft tall and bulletproof on here very easy to do on the internet . If someone on here has something that there not happy that I sold them please call me . I was brought up to not be a smart ass, mind my own business , respect my elders and treat people how I want to be treated . I don't feel that this is anyone business the original poster started this thread before contacting me and sold the gun prior to me making it right with him if he wasn't happy .

As far as the sheep mount is concerned if it is anybody's business I was temporary medically retired in 2009 in 2 years later I was found fit for duty which I was happy to return to serve my country . Upon that determination I put up lots of my property for sale because I didn't know where the Army would send me . I picked up that sheep mount at a yard sale and offered it on Craigslist for sale unknowing of the law against the sale of a trophy and received a fine .

I am in no need of screwing anyone over on the internet anything I sale that someone isn't happy I'm glad to take it back . I live in a $300 k house I drive a new Dodge Ram 2500 Cummings , and me and my beautiful wife earn a comfortable living . If there are further questions than pm me , call me , email me .

I sent you that email saying I was unhappy with the gun and you received same as you proved by posting my personal info in an attempt to retaliate for me exposing you. You never bothered responding to my email (and when you did so, you did on this thread) for a week which led me to post what I did here....

So stop trying to BS people into thinking you're some kind of up-front guy because you're not. I bought that 41 as a favor to a friend of mine and he decided to take it as-is....we transferred it the day I posted about selling it....

You're still the same low-life who told me on the phone that the upper was original to the gun....which it clearly was not....you had no intentions of contacting me until I exposed you for who you are....

I know lots of people who live in $300K houses and drive new vehicles who I won't do business with. So what's your point?

So are you trying to tell us that when the first guy sent the pistol back because it was a POS that he didn't give you a reason why he didn't want it? I believe you knew damn good and well what the issues were and STILL relisted it without full disclosure of its condition. You failed to answer the question as to whether it was all original in the first posting.

I am a bit perplexed as to why you didn't call the seller if you were this unhappy with the gun? I understand being upset about a deal that doesn't go as expected, but I would want to use my available contact info to reach the other party for a resolution.

I am not defending a poorly described item, so if that happened you have good reason to be very upset. I'm just trying to understand your approach to resolving the issue.

Just wondering if he wasn't in any hurry to read an email from you because you had already told him you were happy with the gun??? I think I read somewhere that you had already told him you were pleased with it??

It's not his fault that you deleted his phone number. Looks to me from his responses in this thread that he prefers to do "business" by phone. And I believe I read that you talked to him on the phone before you pulled the trigger on the deal.

Only other thing I can think of is your tone in your email to him was perhaps.......ummmmm.........not very cordial??

Just wondering out loud, so to speak.

ETA: Is the upper of a Model 41 numbered to the gun?? Or was there another way that you knew it was not "original"? I remember that hunthard tried to sell the gun with two uppers as a package deal and then maybe split them up. That should have been a clue that one of them was not original.

Not sure, but he hasn't used one of them since February 2012. I'm guessing due to another dispute that he just wanted to leave behind him?? It's not like he is currently posting under two different names at the same time. May have in the past....but he hasn't done it since early 2012.

Not defending anybody if they lied....but his past behavior, including a return on the particular gun in question before balltownbob bought it, leads me to believe that hunthard would have refunded the funds if that would have been pursued further.
