25 years is considered a generation, but 25 years is much too long to attach a common way of thinking to a group of people. I think 6 or 7 years is about as long a period of time that can be assigned to a common life experience for a group of people. The world moves too fast these days to say that everyone born in a 25 year period get exposed to the same world and develop a common mindset based on that time period.

Exactly. I started my career in the electrical trade in 1976. Times were much tougher than now. Signing the out of work list at #1256 on the list when jobs came in at a pace of about a dozen a week was pretty disheartening.
7-8 months on the out of work list will do nasty things to a young family, with 19-20% mortgages, there was no room for error.
I hustled my ass off doing small electrical side jobs, and pushing my lawn mower around the neighborhood to make enough to buy food. Couldn’t afford to drink. Turning in returnable bottles and cans occasionally meant buying a 40oz Old Milwaukee or other cheap ass beer.

The Boomer generation of '46 to '64 has 18 years, which makes sense as a person reaches maturity at 18. But the next generations have 15, which makes the numbers of boomers a bit misleading in comparison, but whatever.

Voting age numbers is what drives politics... the 'vote'... no generation is immune to the bullchit forced on us by stupid voters, lead by liberal media and hollyweird.

But by the numbers, 71 mil boomers, 68 mil gen x, 72 mil millennials/gen y. That 3 years makes a bit of difference from boomers to gen x, but definitely gen y has the most voting power in history.

Boomer voting came to maturity in about '80, peaked around '96 and had the majority influence with the early gen x voters till 2008.

Since then it's been the gen x/millennial show.

Enough blame to go around, it's been this way since Adam and Eve.

Regardless of how I was taught to react, behave, think and feel, and regardless of how I was raised...once I became a grown man, my decisions were mine. I own em’. And blaming my decisions on how I was raised or on anyone or anything else is irresponsible. I’m an adult, continuing to hold someone else accountable for my decisions is not only childish, but it’s also counterproductive; and it doesn’t help me change for the better by making better decisions.

Boomers are only responsible for the next generation parenting wise... gen x... gen x grew up in peacetime mostly, only had one short war, the Gulf war... they had it pretty good in the 80s and 90s. Vs boomers fighting in Vietnam and gen y fighting in Iraq. Unfortunately the wars a generation must fight, as in young men fight old men's wars, often define them.

A war doesn't define gen x like the boomers and millennials... the advent of cable tv, multi media, computers, big tech, rap music, sexual identity freedom... define gen x.

News flash, they learned it while growing up, and if you weren't teaching them then someone else was. If you fall into this category I'm guessing it's because you weren't around a whole lot or active in your kids' life while they were growing up. From the sound of it it's because you had to work 3 jobs to pay the bills. Maybe that's it, only you can judge you and where your priorities were then.

I know all the freaks and liberals that I grew up with were that way because of either a defunct home life or not one at all to speak of. Parents were always off doing the own thing. To blame the kids for how they turned out is just passing the buck, ultimately it's the parents. No doubt there are other factors but this one i think is the biggest.

Yes they did fight but it was gen y that were the 18 to 21 years old, same with the Vietnam war. Problem when you are 18, you fight the war but don't have the voting power as a generation... and that's a bitter pill.

You can also say the lesson of Vietnam gave us many years of no war that hadn't happened in a long time, because of the boomers.

I understand when someone 39 or younger calls someone older a boomer... I find it ironic when someone in their 40s and 50s say's boomers are responsible for today's wild youth and haven't figured out they are the 'new' boomers, us old boomers have been pushed back of the bus.

My wife's sister is 61 and her daughter, my niece is 18, only child and miracle baby... so boomer to gen z, combinations possible over the generations.

She's my favorite niece, I'm her favorite uncle. Since a child she has come from California, where she lives, out here to fish, camp, shoot guns, ride horses. When I go there it's the beach, maybe a fishing charter, a stop at the guitar store for sheet music. Couple weeks ago we went there and I bought her a new guitar as an upgrade to the cheap used one I got her a few years ago, since she has stayed with playing.

Last year she wrote a pro 2A article for her school paper, she took some flack but didn't back down. Her boyfriend is a Trump supporter same as her and they have gotten some snide remarks on facebook but she stands tall. She has never shot a gun in california just here, her parents don't own a gun.

Travis is right, the early gen x are much more like the late boomers. Besides the divide in generations at the end of WWII, there is a divide of boomers from vietnam. I grew up with Vietnam on the nightly news, I knew I would be going when I hit 18, I was told by older vets like my dad to enlist rather than be drafted, I wasn't scared, figured it was how the world worked. I had and still have all respect for those that went, they were the older brothers of my friends, older guys in church, some didn't come back alive, people I actually knew.

Then the war was over when I was 15, registration was over when I was 18, those same vets told me not to bother with the military as it was peace time and crowded. Now first semester of college my buddy wanted to be an AF pilot so we went down to the recruiter and talked, I wanted to see what college benefits were available, spent some time down there and was told it was pretty full at the time but they would call in the future, never heard from them. I wrote it off and my buddy did get in after he got his BA and became a pilot.

So coming to age in the 70s vs the 60s is a much different experience than my older boomer breatharian, they fought war and a hostile homecoming, I had peace.
