Im so old when someone mentions Yeti 30 oz cups, I start talking about having canvas bags of water on the front bumper of my Packard when we used to go out and sit on the bleachers during atom bomb detonations
I remember going down to the country to visit Great Uncle Roger and Aunt Mae Going into the farm house the first room on the left had nothing but shotguns leaning against the wall, all double barrel, all 12ga.
All the dogs were coon dogs or rabbit hounds
All the vehicles were pick-up trucks, except the one Uncle Roger drove, it was a 38' Chevy
There boys Billy and Pat paid $50 for everything they bought $50 for the shotguns, $50 for the hound dogs, $50 for the pick-ups
I am so old....I rode to town with my neighbors kids in the back of the truck that had a 6 foot high cattle pen in the bed....and we used to climb up it while going down the road.
Looked like the back of this one all the way around and a few feet taller!!
When I was a kid - my dad let me take off and walk through 120 acres of woods to access the town dump with 10/22's and a brick of 22lr in tow to shoot things. Old TV's, rats, bottles etc. Anything interesting.
No supervision, no return time, few rules and I was 8 years old.
Later as a teen I had 2 rules
1. Call if you're not coming home that night 2. Don't bother calling from jail
I was watching cartoons on some Dallas station, I think a it was Sunday morning. Jack Ruby suddenly shot Lee Harvey Oswald. I thought it was pretty strange.

Wow. I fit a lot of those. I remember when the first Ruger 10/22 came out and Bill Ruger was the new guy in the block. Also had a party line - 2 shorts/1long and only had to dial 4 numbers for a local call. All us pre-teens had our own 22s we went out after school with, by ourselves. Lead paint on the window sills was ok for teething toy. White walls were “cool” and no one had air conditioning. White walls were a recent haircut also. Criminals were on death row for months not decades.
I started Kindergarten in 1949. I rode to school in my brother's Kaiser.
Anybody beat this? Wabigoon might get the OM prize today.
I remember my Dads 63 F100 Longbed Unibody that the doors used to pop open going around curves due to the flex of the body. You just knew to hold on and no one ever fell out, even before seatbelts and kids carseats. Jeeze--how did we survive?
I’m so old I can remember 20.9 gas during gas wars, could take my girl out for 5 bucks, dollar for gas, burgers and coke for the two of us for 2 dollars, get in show with popcorn and soda for two bucks.
61903.. Ding Dong school $64,000 dollar question Opening the vent window in the car for “air conditioning” Buffalo nickels Steel pennies Flash Gordon Life of Riley Shootin’ Shell Fanner 50’s pistols Coon skin hat and fringed leather jacket
I'm so old I remember having a bowl of popcorn while listening to The Lone Ranger on the radio. I'm so old I took my driver's test at age 16 in a car with a manual transmission. ( Passed it too! ) I'm so old I remember when baseball players played for one team while in the majors. I'm so old, no wait I forget.
I'm so old I remember when wives got their husband's social security number with a B after it. Husband got the A. And I remember having to deal with the IRS processers who didn't believe it.

I'm in. 1944 for me. 39 isn't my age, it's my vintage.
I remember just about all of this, except for the country stuff. I was a small town kid, no livestock. We did have Victory Gardens during WW II, though. Air raid drills and blackouts too.
Dang, I remember that one. After it came on, there was one called Fury, "The story of horse... and a boy who loved him." Quit watching those shows when Dad started taking me hunting with him.
I am so old, I remember when Exxon was Esso, and yeah, it was a service station; they'd check the gas and fill it up with oil.
I am not so old that I remember the Amos 'n' Andy Show on the radio, but I am old enough to have seen it on TV.
I am old enough to remember when deer and bear were scarce, and you'd be ostracized for killing a doe. Turkeys and bald eagles were pictures in a book, but quail were plentiful; the opposite of how it is today.
I am old enough to remember a time when people didn't want to live on the beach because of all the hurricanes. I paid more for my pickup than my folks got for their house at the beach when we moved away.
I tried to post what I could remember now, cause I am so old that I might forget them if I wait until later.
If you were responding to my post, it was during WW II. The "duck and cover" Cold War stuff was about a decade later. In my case, my military service was during the so-called Cold War. The Cold War was a misnomer, it was never cold. Personal for me, as I was close to situations where US personnel were killed by the Soviets. 'Nuff said.
For those living on the coasts during WW II, air raids, sub attacks, and landing of spies and saboteurs were not unrealistic fears.
I started 1st grade in 1949 - Our school did not have a kindergarten. Went all 12 years in same building. Our Graduating class had 28 students 7 girls and 21 boys. Old Cuss
Aunt and uncle used one of those up until ~ 1969, or so. We had the operator saying "Number, please" until 1958 IIRC, then we got dial phones - 4 numbers to dial.

I remember using the innards of these for shocking catfish.
I'm so old I remember when you could order a gun from the Sears catalog and have it delivered to your door. No background check. No 4473 to fill out. You know, back when we still had some of our constitutional rights. Of course all of these new laws were worth it, since they've practically eliminated crime.

I'm so old that I also recall the mail order gun days...... Back about 1960, when I was 10, my pals and I were gonna pool our money and buy a .30-06 for $9.95 through the mail. It was a not exactly mint old military bolt gun, probably one of those beat up, re-chambered South American Mausers. Only problem was that as kids, none of us were allowed to own something like that and we couldn't find an address to ship it to. Sure as heck couldn't have one of our parents wondering what was in that big box that came today.
I'm so old I remember when you didn't have to wear a seat belt when driving, there were ash trays in all the stores, bars and restaurants and you could still buy lawn darts.
