25 mins watching this buck and 3 does 40 to 65 yds out in a maple thicket shallow bowl depression.
Constant shift mono pod looking for a lane or waiting for to hit a lane clear enough for a shot.

Finally hit about a 4" to 5 " 50 55 yd lane I could put a shot on him.
High shoulder breakdown...

Probably 115 inches at the most.

Then beat feet in the dark about 1400 yds to SE corner area.
I ran across 6 or 7 scrapes on the old logging rd.
Texting him about that on way over.

After I shot the buck and going back to get slumlord and the truck.
This was one of the scrapes I came across this morning walking.

Bout 100 yds from where I shot the buck in the maple thicket.

The thicket is between a N and S oak plateau about 4 acres in size and a E and W gentle slope to south oak flat about 7 acres in size.

And the Keeblers had to have heard my shot.
Which just adds to it all in their minds.
Priceless.....

Helped gut out a doe for a mutual friend of rick and me last fall.
Aggravating me watch him struggle with his "sharp knife".
Handed him the buck 110.

Coached him thru everything.
Seen bladder was full.
Told him leave it alone and this is what we are gonna do
Got the bladder issue addressed in a creek after rest of guts.

He woulda punched that bladder more than likely and polluted meat for hrs before he got it home.


Bladder in slumlords deer was a deflated balloon.
This one let his go when he got shot and died.
Whizz all inside his hind legs
1/ 4th full when I gutted him at the most.
Didnt really give it a thought after seen it.


Got it to slumlords hosed it out.
Got it to the meatlocker.

This was a deer I kept about 6 years ago when I was still able to dress them without blood-borne pathogen risks. I’d gently saw the pelvic bridge and do a hip stomp and spread the divide. Carefully delivered a very full bladder on this buck. I shot him in a bedding area.

Deal with that first, slide the turds up the track so none fall out and cut all the little mesentery and muscles along the chute and all the nasty parts are gone in a one gentle pull.

Not sure why everything on this forum has to be repeatedly explained.

It’s being donated, the can put a little skin in the game too and cut out the ass, they’re getting a nice, subsidized payment to process at the donation locker.

I just stick my knife in their ass all crazy and cut around with my eyes and mouth closed. Like Callnum’s boyfriend.

A deer ain’t that difficult to gut cleanly don’t even have to split the pelvis and no need for a butt out tool can all be done with a knife in 5-10 minutes

Can do it a few different ways. Sometimes I’ll capture that urine on a full bladder. Get them gutted, disemboweled and do the butt job on the gambrel, leave the canal intact and pull it out straight-up.

I’ll bottle that and use it on another property a few miles away in a line of scrapes. Established and mock.

But unforgiven in shooting form error given the bullet dwell time in the barrel if your not familar with one.

Minnesota used to be no-optics on your muzzleloader. When it changed, my old ass wholeheartedly embraced it. My Optima 2 with a scope > Knight with irons at first/last light.

Give the person all the rest for half the butcher bill.

Wasnt gonna go knock on neighbors doors petitioning deer meat split a butcher bill campaign.

Even with half a bead sitting in the bottom of the U, sighted in for a finer sight picture was iffy at longer distance due to slight variation in actual sight alignment and picture
The distance increase error thing of POI in cahoots with POA and sight picture.

75 80 yds out was GTG.
Wooded terrian anyways.
Most shots well under 50 around here.

But it is nice having a scoped inline reach out and touch something to 150 with confidence giving a good shot presentation and steady rest.
Shifting the kodiak constantly yesterday on my catpole monopod and both elbows on my knees trying to get a lane on that buck is a example of scope over open sights.

My neighbor thought the 8 was a "shooter" based on trail cam pics, but the body looked smaller than the doe I shot, so he walked.

The 30-30 with a Gemtech Tracker was effective and quiet.

We got some snow by the time it was over. I let the younguns have the blinds with heaters, and I froze my azz off.

Grind up most of it. Vacs, packs and stacks neatly even in an upright freezer. Do a small run of summer sausage couple times a year. Like Christmas in July. Fun stuff



But I’ll give a stinky buck away to anyone that it might be a blessing to.

Hard for me to man-handle butchering and cooler work on a large size deer. Electric winch in my walkin helps tremendously but still.

With 2 uprights and 2 chest freezers, I’m packed for ghe apocalypse with beef, pork, chickens, home grown garden vegetables.

Could do all my canning and keep all that jive out there. Have a Hotpoint range top set up on the patio right now too. Be nice to reclaim all that space.

As far as big does I had a big dry doe on the place not too many years back. The doe loved the Pretty Mohican when she was here and waited outside to follow her around. She could about hand feed that doe. Really neat having the doe around.
After a couple of years a neighbor came on my drive in and poached the doe. He took it down to a bar contest for big deer, she won the doe bracket at 168 lbs dressed.

Last time was when I took a deer to a processor because I already had a doe to butcher. I got more meat out of the 80lb doe that I butchered than I got from the 120lb buck that I had processed.

The keystone pipeline wasn't in production and the oil that would be pumped through it was being shipped overseas. The irony of this is that once the pipeline did go into production, it was speculated that it would actually drive up the price of gas in the US because allot of the oil was going to be refined into diesel before it got shipped overseas. The reason that would drive up the price of gas is because it would take away oil refining capacity from domestic gasoline. As for Biden stopping selling leases, he has never actually stopped selling the leases. As a matter of fact, the Biden admin is about to have a giant gas lease sale for over 80 million acres of public waters in the gulf of mexico. Apparently, this was going to be done by Trump but I guess the pandemic kind of screwed it up for him. They are saying the sale could generate as much as 1.1 billion barrels of oil.
