Open letter to Rick Bin
------------------
Dear Rick Bin:

Thank you for providing a forum for hunters and shooters to discuss their hobby and buy, sell and swap equipment. It is a commercial website to promote McMillan gunstocks, and has other sponsors in the optics, truck, ATV and gear businesses.

The problem is that the discussion is unmoderated. Like many such forums on the Internet, the lack of controls attracts individuals whose intent is to disrupt serious and friendly conversation, and to fraternize with similar trouble makers. They are like the losers in school who become bullies, and here, they can avoid growing up. A few ringleaders try to provoke explanations which they can degrade into argument and name-calling, then invite the gang in to pile on. They even stalk and personally attack other posters who stand up to them, to drive them out of the web site.

Sadly, this is condoned and even encouraged by some of those who write articles and earn a livelihood by writing. Outfitters and guides with solid reputations are defamed here daily. Professionals like myself are defamed by falsehoods about our work by anonymous posters who do not even know us.

I spoke with an attorney who is a close friend, specializing in First Amendment cases, libel, and slander in public media. He was especially concerned about a tactic used by these disruptive individuals to subject others to hatred, ridicule and contempt.

Photos of real people are posted and the audience is falsely told that this is so-and-so, the target of the gang. Many of these people are mentally retarded, handicapped, or otherwise chronically disabled. Some are just innocent hunters and fishermen who never heard of, or visited 24HourCampfire.

Targets of this hatred whose identities are unknown, are accused of being someone on another web forum, or some person whose name or career loosely matches them. The names of unrelated people in other Internet forums, business people, engineers, architects, and other professionals have been posted on 24HourCampfire for the purpose of subjecting them to hatred, ridicule and contempt.

After just one minute of observing posts and the demeaning soft-core pornographic images of women posted here, my attorney said he not only would never join this site, but would never visit it again.

The website, 24HourCampfire, has become a public nuisance. At some point, these innocent people outside this forum may become aware they are being used, ridiculed and attacked with vicious falsehoods, and some of them may take legal action against the owners and businesses sponsoring this website. No one can blame them for that.

I do not want to be, in any way, the cause or excuse for these social misfits to defame and abuse others, and to bring harm to the owners of this enterprise and the underlying businesses which use it for marketing and public relations. Nor do I want to be caught in the middle of such litigation. Last night, I decided to stop reading and responding to these attacks on me in an attempt to defend my opinions and my reputation. Today, I am ceasing to post anything here. Please close my account and remove my personal information immediately.

Thank you for your noble ideas in starting this web site and your efforts to make it work. I hope you clean it up before a few trespassers ruin things for everyone, including 24hourcampfire.com, Inc and its sponsors.

Interesting that you've posted this here rather than just email Rick. I think you're really just looking for more drama and trying to stir up reactions. I suspect you'll get exactly what you asked for and that although you've said you're ceasing to post and asked that your account be closed, the fact that you remain online is more telling that your childish little post. You are simply like the little boy who runs and tattles to the teacher at recess because you don't like how the game is being played.

But Lee does raise a point. I saw a new poster just today with only 42 posts, insulted for putting forth a well written, well thought out opinion, and it rolled on by without comment because people around here have desensitized themselves to these rude posts.

dang just once I was hopin he was telling the truth bout something!

I agree with Lee, if some of the regulars here were hounding regular guys, it would be a travesty to this site and all it provides in the way of knowledge and companionship.

fortunately the only guys I see stalked and hunted down are Lee24 and perhaps Maser.

one is a guy that is so full of turkey feathers that if not run off or called on his BS, he would be likely to post information under the guise of him being expert on all things that could get someone hurt or cost them money.

the other was given a chance to grow up and become a part of this online community but failed miserably at that attempt.

none of the regulars or anyone with respect for the shooting sports desire to have this individual misconstrue that he or his ilk are "the future of the shooting sports" as he states in his sig line.

we're all hoping his kid has a future, but he's off to a rough start with a guy that likes to wet his pants and post it on youtube or pose in a bunny costume as his dad.

Lee24 it's an awful thing to call an honest man a liar, tis fighting words. But calling a liar a liar is perfectly acceptable and should be encouraged.

hope both those guys get the professional help they need.

and yes Rick Bin, thanks again for providing such a wonderful place for outdoorsmen and women to gather and discus all things.

Here's what's known:

A search was done for "LEE", "south carolina", and "engineer", along with other selected pieces of [bleep], and came upon a political forum in SC, where the guy Lee (last name withheld) spews forth with the same attitude and rhetoric as our Lee24. Claims to be a consulting engineer.

Found a "Lee (last name withheld at this point)" at engineeringexchange with similar experiential claims, and no evidence to back it up, though there is no "Lee (last name withheld)", and only two references at all in South Carolina as being professional engineers with the same last name as the one withheld, and neither are named anything close to "Lee".

A moderator at another forum whom I know verified that there is someone there was logged in as LeeinSC, and being an ass. LeeinSC also made comments about his discussion at huntamerica.com where he is LeeinSC. That Lee makes claims to guns like Lee24.

Login info there comes back to Lee (last name withheld) located in SC.

LeeinSC is the photobucket account of Lee24, and LeeinSC on the other forums.

Too much for coincidence

Why is writing that long letter and posting it in 3 different forums easier than just posting 1 picture of your SC .375?

I think you're dead on correct. It's really kinda sad when someone is so far out of touch with reality that they can't even begin to see the problem. What self respecting person would have so aggressively sought that level of negative attention.

I'm thinking that there is a song in here somewhere, perhaps 1 sung to the tune of The Wizard of Oz's "Ding Dong! The Witch Is Dead!".

Ding Dong! The Lee is gone!

Yep. Seems that those who post the big farewells are always back.
I've stayed on the sidelines through all of this but its really been a momentous week. Brown won in Mass., Pelosi backs down on "health care," SCOTUS guts most of McCain-Feingold and now this.

Life is good this week...

Lee24 is a really unfortunate individual, because he lacks the courage to be what he claims to be. He is one of those who likes to attack others, but is too cowardly to let anyone know who he actually is. Everyone who I've ever argued or debated with who is visible as an individual I have no problem with, whether I ever agree with them or not. But the gutless bastards like Lee24 deserve exactly nothing, because they've never had the guts to be known.

Good to see him go away -- if he does -- because he's just plain useless. We'll see.

I don't think I have ever participated in a thread by or about Lee24 in my time at the campfire. I have found the whole interaction over the many months to be quite perplexing, and more than a little sad. Here you have someone who REALLY wants to be accepted, but nevertheless engages in a pattern of behavior that alienates people to the point of being a pariah. Simple trolls come and go in a couple dozen posts. Lee24's needs and failings run much much deeper.

It is really rather pitiful. No matter how severe the social sanction, he kept coming back for more. I'll never understand why he didn't leave months and months ago; I can't figure out what need kept him posting, even though every one opened him up for more heckling and belittling.

I hope he doesn't completely go away. He had me all ticked off in the fitness craze thing and in the 375 hh thing. He was somewhat cordial. I was always wanting to get all of the Alaskan boys and girls(Steelie, too) to put together a trip for him and maser. I thought it would be kind of a coming to jesus party. It never was realized. I think that if the Montana folk which there are a lot of and the Alaskan folk each donated 50 bucks we could get both of them up here and really give each the real world experience that they need.
It never really happened and the world is poorer for it.

Sincerely,

A raffle is the best way to generate the most money and everyone can participate.

Not sure of the legal issues but we could ask Le .... oh I forgot, he's gone.

I'll get some of the details worked out, but it will definitely be a raffle.

When I get it ironed out, I'll post the details in another thread on the campfire, but everyone is encouraged to link to it from other places here.

For starters, I'm thinking tickets could go for $10.00 each. Minimum purchased and raffle dates would yet to be determined.

I've met "castandblast" and "222Rem", as well as a few others, but those guys are here in Oregon and fairly close. One or both might be willing to participate in the drawing, so everybody knows that it's fair.

I'm thinking requirement would have to be that you were an active member of the campfire before today to qualify.

Okay, so there's some ideas. Feel free to throw out your own and we'll see what we can come up with.

Call me ignorant, but how many hoops does a guy have to go through to send a rifle to an FFL holder, based on numerous people donating to the cause? I would think that once the funds were collected, we would simply send off the proceeds, minus my investment in the rifle and we're good right?

Somebody ends up with a Model 70 for 10 bucks and goes through a licensed dealer of their choice, at which time they would go through the background check and have to pay that fee, but that's the end of the story correct?

Posted By: RWE Re: Open letter to Rick Bin - 01/22/10
Matt,

that's how it worked with one I did in Va.

Since I was in NC, they sent the gun across the border to my FFL (at my expense) and I paid the transfer fee on my end.

All in all, I got the gun for $30 so I still made out ahead.

No PAYPAL.........Anti-gun SOB's.

The theory is good, if we've got another avenue that would work the same way. I heard some mention of a gunpal or some such thing.
Going to call BATF tomorrow and see what the legalities are of this raffle. I'm getting word it might not be feasible, so we'll see.

If it's not, I'm still going to sell it as I would any other legally with another licensed FFL holder waiting on the other end.

Shriners and Pheasants Forever and others run gun auctions here every year. Can't believe that you couldn't manage it as a private individual.

I'll definitely be in... though I want HAC to be engraved somewhere on it. grin
Posted By: rattler Re: Open letter to Rick Bin - 01/22/10
cant see how it wouldnt be feasible short of your state saying it aint there.....have done similar raffles all the time here, only hang up is the gun must be passed through a FFL to the winner.....Ducks Unlimited, Walleyes Unlimited, the Lions Club, the Optimist Club have all done gun raffles just here in this town....

BTW if yah want hard copy tickets ild be willing to do them gratis provided all the funds minus shipping expenses of the rifle and like go to a charity like Wounded Warriors or similar.....even ship them to you on my dime.....though i can think of other ways yah could do it without actual tickets aswell provided everyone trusts yah(i do)

The potential problem is state laws against games of chance. They require a charity to host the raffle and that the charity has to have a license. Here in AK they are very specific and all I am aware from other states are equally so. Being interstate has to create complications...

They do not want folks running around claiminig it is for charity and prospering on others misled intentions.

I'm in Oregon and the gun club I belong to has a raffle every year for a rifle. The rifle may have to be donated to the charity first and then raffle tickets sold by the charity? If thats the case then I'd be willing to donate money to you Matt so that that you recoup your investment then later If you receive a tax break on it you can again donate it in kind if you choose. I don't know if this is feasible, but if I can help in any way with the $$$ let me know. I applaud what your trying to accomplish.

Well, when dealing with libtards,it's usually a two bagger plus a sock in the mouth so they don't talk and ruin the mood.

If it's a smokin hot libtard,no bags,no sock, just ear plugs and a good exit strategy.

Absolutely Matt. Proud to be a part of this "menace to society"!
The raffle is simple draw a name the winner provides a FFL to ship to if he does not provide it draw again. Just don't ship the rifle without to anyone but a FFL.

Who gives a rats ass what one person thinks, regardless of their professional position in life, let alone a friend of some dude with an attitude, who threatens legal proceedings against Rick and the sponsors of this fine website....

Oh wait, I thinks this is a good thing, most lawyers wouldn't go to a hunting / shooting website anyway. Sorry to those lawyers who do visit here, probably good people.....

I'm glad that we have a lock on the scum lawyers, they don't mind wallowing around in the filth with the rest of us pigs.

thanks isaac, Steve NO and all you other wonderful attorneys that will rub cyber elbows with the common folk.
Are you interested in making this soot a class action,......

SteveNO's idea sounds great,....

Let me know, and I'll foward alla' my beefs about how unkindly the world in general, and the Campfire in particular have maligned, misinterpreted, molested, .....etc.

There's at LEAST 110 complaints,......surely ONE would be worth the price of a good S.C. Win ?

,...and if he doesn't do a good job soo-in hisself on behalf of alla those people he meanmouth's, we'll have Lee24 report him to the bar.

,...and me and the bartender are just like that,....

*Bristoe displays his index and middle finger pressed tightly together*

See ya Lee. Not really going to miss your BS, lies, and fantasies.

BTW: Like the raffle idea - I'd be in for a few tickets.

He's a bullshitter. He came here and bullshitted.

A lot of people hollered "BULLSHIT!",...so he said, "I'll sue!",...then he pissed off,...maybe.

Nobody really cares. It's just da innanet,...and bullshitters are a dime a dozen on it.
Posted By: Steve_NO Re: Open letter to Rick Bin - 01/23/10
dood.....that is so wrong.

Besides, I looked at your case against me, and after careful study decided it is not worth pursuing. I'll be sending you a bill for my time in checking it out for you, though.

lessee now.....three hours = approximately one FAL

or one of those two little Cadet Martinis would be OK, too.

and if you're slow payin', I'll be hiring Lawyer Lee to collect, so.....be warned.

It not that I don't give a [bleep], it's that you gotta dance with the one that brung you.

From Day One, this website has been about self-regulation and minimal Big Brother, and that's the way I intend to keep it. It's seemed to work. We'll be celebrating our tenth anniversary soon.

Yeah, in the short-term, it means sometimes we all have to tolerate folks we'd rather not. BUT, when I hear somebody complain about another member and ask me to ban/censor/castrate another poster, my take is I'm doing things right. And don't think I don't realize how quickly that tide will turn if I were to start wielding a heavy hammer around here.

Nah, it ain't my job to settle beefs among and between grown men (and women), nor to pick sides. The membership here has more than enough power to take care of business without my intrusion, and usually does. I'll step in only if and when I feel I have no choice, and very few have put me in that position.

It's your sandbox, boys.

There ya go!

That's close enough to not givvin' a chit for me.

I'm a libertarian, yanno. We vastly prefer notgivvashitism to snot nosed snivellin'. Especially the Lee24 variety.

He's one of them bottle fed people. They're easy to spot,..

,...always carryin' own about first one bullshit item then another,..then piss their britches at the first hint of being called on it.

A titty 45 years ago would have changed his life,...but it's too late now.

Well, Liar24 has resurfaced as LSCE.

Go figure.
Wish I had a magic button that would vaporize people! I'd nuke half the damn place and there'd be about three posts left in the entire "Campfire"! Never seen so much bitching, moaning, and crying in all my life, and I grew up with six sisters, have four daughters, and work with fugg'n criminals for a living!

Seriously, this place gets stupider with every passing hour, and I ain't just talking about Lee and Oldman1942! Some people need to grow the [bleep] up and learn to give it a rest!
