Is a gel coat swirled EDGE Hunter a possibility? I could care less about the slight increase in weight.

Paint sucks(ALL paint)...................

I'm in line if possible! I'd love a swirly in a stock weighing in the neighborhood of the KS.

Stick,

I thought you didn't give a rip about the cosmetics of your tools. All paint can do is wear off.

But gelcoat cain't and I'm partial to the elimination of variables.

The Cool Factor always warrants being weighed,al else being equal.................

I agree. Weight has been my only hang up. You know those extra two ounces could kill a fella.

Are those "edge" stocks the lightweight ones?

To my (limited) knowledge, the EDGE technology is available in but a sole Sporting pattern(Hunter's EDGE),which is SUCKS compatible.

If given free reign,I'd specify an EDGE technolgy Mountain Rifle handle and if really given the reigns, would prefer texture to checkering ala HTG/M40A1.

Beggars cain't be choosers and I'll take what I can get,as long as it ain't black......................

Stick,
McMillan is now offering the EDGE technology in all of their stocks. You can get a Mountain Rifle EDGE stock now (I'm contemplating a sub-7lb 223 AI right now).

We can make a Remington Mountain rifle stock weigh 28-30 ounces without using EDGE technology(for a .223 AI it would be at the lighter end Specify Rem KS fill). With EDGE technology we can make it weigh 22-24 ounces. With EDGE technology and molded marble finish we could make a stock 25-27 ounces. We have a hard enough time justifying the extra cost for the graphite material with a savings of 4 to 8 ounces. I don't feel good about the extra charge for a savings of 3-5 ounces.

The worst part is that with the 100% graphite cloth(jet black), we would have the weave of the cloth show through so bad we could never get you guys to accept them. Once we have added the extra weight of the molded gel coat, they would be too heavy to paint.

Unfortunately there are just somethings that aren't possible, like making all of you happy all the time. :^)

My lightest KS,went 24oz,prior to bedding. It's a great handle,but wears paint.

I've zero qualm doing the light-filled Swirly Thing,as it's a path I know well.

I figured it hurts none to ask,so I'll continue along in familiar territory...................

Actually that's not right. Yes, we do put Kevlar in the KS's but against our wishes. Remember back when we first started making these stocks, Remington was owned by DuPont. Kevlar is a DuPont product. They insisted on being able to say they were Kevlar stocks, so we put some Kevlar in places where it would com, promise the quality of the stock, in small amounts just enough for them to be able to make their claims.

Most probably don't know this, but we started working with Kevlar back in 1980 when we were working with the Marines on an M-14 project. All of our research and the tests the Marines did convinced us and them that Kevlar is just not a good material to make stocks out of. The type of strengths that it possesses is not the strengths needed to make a good gunstock. Those that are were negated when laminated. Example: It's damn hard to cut a piece of Kevlar with a sharp pair of scissors and damn near impossible to machine it with endmills. But take a piece of Kevlar that has been laminated in epoxy resin and you can tear in two with your fingers. The resin makes the fibers so brittle it loses it's tear strength.

So to answer the question. KS fill is a special mixture of the materials we use specifically designed to produce a stock that weighs 1lb 10-12 ounces. It will not contain Kevlar.

Kelly, is that what you get when you specify "light fill" or is this even lighter? I'm guessing if it's different you could ask for it with any of the McSwirly patterns?
