Toss-up.

I'd take the .260 with 140 grain loads if it shoots well. And I have - 1 elk, several caribou, and a wolf, so far. All bang/flops to almost 400 yards on caribou (150 on elk).

Because that's what I have and that's what it likes. Mine is a Remington 725SA, with a light contour 700TI stainless barrel on it, sporting a 2-7 Leupold VXII scope. Real nice gun to carry on a mountain. Original, but really ugly stock... It works just fine as is.... smile

But I may screw a .308 barrel on a 700 (currently in .243, but accuracy isn't all that good) for a deer/elk rifle for my Colorado son if he ever gets around to getting his hunter safety card... Or maybe a 7-08... Probably take that pretty wood stock off and put on Tupperware to lighten it up some.
