I bet 7-10 on the great lakes is a whole different ball game than 7-10 on the ocean. 10 on the ocean as swell is often very fishable, but if it's a steep chop, it'll thrash you and make you not want to be there. 24' is about the biggest I've fished in too, out at the Fairweather Grounds in the Glory about 15 years ago. It was BIG.
I trolled the Fairweather Grounds in the late '70s and got to see some big water... well understand the difference in wave period and wave height...
Just had to run some crap headed into Kodiak that probably only made 8' (doubled) but it was very short and very uncomfy...
