Fishing in the Great Lakes is pretty much sport fishing. Have been out in ~8' seas many times, just not much fun, hard on equipment, and a challenge to keep the cannonballs behaving. Typical boat for most of us is less than 30', with maybe 20-24 being average.
Sadly, the kings & cohos here are not nearly as tasty as those actually coming out of Pacific water. However, the fight is just fine.
