I wash merino sweaters in lukewarm water with some kind of soap like woolite, rinse, roll up in a towel to get the water out, then lay it flat in the tub to dry. Works well.
Long underwear just goes in the cold wash and gets dried in the drier. Seem to weather that storm okay.
