An honest opinion here.

It doesn't sound to me like you have much experience with 'older' 700s.

I wish I had a record of HOW MANY 700s that I've had + friends had. WE never had a single solitary problem and we NEVER doubted the accuracy NOR had any trouble getting it.

243, 6mm R probably THE MOST accurate rifle I've ever owned. I almost could not put together a load that shot over 1" ( truth)!- 270, 7 RM several,
30-06, 300 WM, 8mm RM ( still have it) and a friend HAS 375 HH.

Out of that list only the 8 and 375 were ONE each, the others were multiple. I STILL have some OLDER 700s, they're staying here.
