Lactase persistence has apparently arisen in the human population in at least four different locations in the last 10,000 years.
Some populations which are now positive for lactase persistence appear to have lacked the contributing gene as recently as 6 to 7 thousand years ago.
It is an interesting subject, the everchanging genome of the human species.
