but I would love to have something I can goto the range and shoot without breaking the bank for an afternoon of practice with the rifle and bullet weight ammo I want to use on the hunt.
A lot of guys buy into a lot of the high tech stuff, without doing a lot of the basic training-homework of shooting your rifle in a variety of ranges and positions to be proficent- mostly because a box of ammo (or loading components) cost so much.

Unless your deer rifle is a .22 or a .30 cal and you shoot the same weight as surplus FMJ bullets, pulling the trigger adds up fast.

Reference my earlier post. I can load a box of .30-06's with my hunting bullet for about $3.50- cartridges which give me .30-40 Krag performance. Plenty of moxie for killing deer, not to mention punching mere holes in paper. I know guys who spend darn near that much each time they pull the trigger with factory stuff.

Of course, cast bullets aren't as glamorous as state-of-the-art jacketed bullets when it comes BS sessions around a campfire or across the counter at a gunshop, especially when the discussion devolves into who has the bigger dick...
