If I ever stop to think about it, I will wear a dust mask when mowing the lawn. There are some spores or something that make me cough, plug up my sinuses. I just keep "forgetting" to put it on, then I'm thinking, well, hey, I'm almost done...lol
Remember next time and report on the amount that still gets through since they don't seal around your face
You can get dust masks that seal up well now. They have a thin but wide gasket that really works, and an exhaust valve. I get them at Home Depot, but I'm sure you can find them elsewhere. Milwaukee is the brand I have.
If I see someone wearing these masks while doing something dusty, they get a pass. Likewise, if they're out in thick smoke like we had here last summer. Any other kind of mask, and I consider that a uniform.
Wearing any mask alone in the car with the windows up, and there's no question that's a democrat.
