Our ideas are pretty much the same. Wife has a 2002 Honda Accord with 53k miles on it, and I got a 1994 Grand Cherokee Laredo v8 with close to 164K miles on it.
Like the other post, I rather have my wife drive the newer car with my two young'uns in it and hope she gets to her destination.
I'll take the broken down car, hitchiking home, fooling with the tow truck driver if it ever comes to that.
