Where did you learn that? Have you never fired the .454 in a test media?

I load only the 260 Freedom Arms bullets. (I am the creep who bought all they had when they were running out.) They do not expand in my tests. I shot one 24" through a log and then through a buck on the other side. It dropped at the shot. In addition to bone fragments, the lungs were filled with wood chips!

Maybe the .45 would do the same thing. I never had one and never loaded down to duplicate their lower power level. Tell us if you would try the same thing.

My primer of choise is the CCI 450 Mag. After trying several, I narrowed it down to this one because it prefered them for the best accuracy. Many times I have fired five shots, a cylendar full) into less than 2" at 100 yards. I get S.D.'s under 15 and velocity spreads of 25-30 feet per second.

When I was shooting 262 grain cast with #9 powder there was no flame noticable even in the evening.

I have shot lots of test media as well as game with both the .454 and the .45 Colt and I reload both. I think both cartridges work the best with 300 + grain bullets. The lighter bullets are fine for deer, but deer are pretty thin skinned. Never been a fan of light and fast.
