I remember when tipping was 10% The tip is a percentage of the total. So when food prices go up do do the tips. We shouldn't have to increase the percentage.
Yeah I remember my FIL leaving a $1 tip on a $50 meal check about 15 years ago while the rest of us would have dropped 10%. He remembered from his early days that was a decent tip. After he left we added a fiver to avoid embarrassment.
My point is times change and a 10% tip for good service today is an embarrassment.
