As a former school administrator, I used used a common sense appropach to handling bullies.We had corporal punishment for fighting. Manys the the time I paddled the bully first, sent him on his way, then swore the "good kid" to silence and paddled the bottom of my loafer shoe. I recall a chubby jr. high kid being bullied in the 6th grade by a black student. I contacted the chubby kid's dad and explained the situation. Over the summer, said kid worked the hay fields with his uncle who just happened to have been a Golden Gloves champ. The start of the of the next school yaer, kids came running into the office declaring a fight at recess. I looked out the window and saw the combatants and took my precious time getting there. The black bully had 2 black eyes, a fat lip, and was bleeding profusely while pleading for mercy. The kid had developed a hell of a jab, footwork, and muscles over the summer. Problem solved.
