If I owned a rifle in any other caliber than 223, it'd be an autoloader in 308, probably a Remington. The milsurp rapidfire practice, at realisting offhand ranges, means more than any bs "advantage" that the other calibers offer (ballistically) A lot more. So do the fast repeat shots. animals sometimes move just at the shot, and then you have a fleeing cripple, and no, the bolt action is not fast enough. Ditto for dog packs, or human predators.
