Various 308's have killed the vast majority of my big game animals since 1968, and I would agree with everything positive that has already been said about the 308 on this thread.

It offers a combination of accuracy, versatility, shootability, and lethality that few rounds, if any, can match. And ... it's incredibly unfussy to handload.

The only knock against it is that it's none too sexy, in looks or paper ballistics. But ... it works. It's like golf - you drive for show and putt for dough.
