This is true.
The .308 is inherently accurate; has an extremely wide range of factory ammo, loading data and bullets available at decent prices; can be found in virtually every rifle manufacturer's catalog and every gun shop; has the advantage of lighter short actions and lighter ammo loads in the field; is widely available in military surplus; and can reliably be used to take down virtually every animal in NA.
If I didn't have my .30-06, I'd want a .308... or a .270.
