I got a 30 government [30-40] 1895 Win made in 1902 for $500 from a pawn shop last year.

I got way more than a pound of dirt out of it when I took it apart. And I had a real puzzle getting back together.

Now I know more about them, I realize someone shortened the barrel. I since bought a 257 Krag Ackley reamer and dies, and I might take it apart again.

I have been collecting guns for 20 years, but for the last 3 years since my father died, I seem to be indiscriminately buying old Winchesters and Colts. I would not want to die without owning more Winchesters than I have now.

There is nothing noble in being superior to your fellow man; true nobility is being superior to your former self. -Ernest Hemingway
The man who makes no mistakes does not usually make anything.-- Edward John Phelps
