"I like people who weren't captured."

I think it's safe to say that this statement insults the entire POW community, not just an individual, because it demeans what all POWs went through.

As an outsider who (luckily) was never a POW, I find it highly offensive because of its demeaning intent. If that makes me "chickish," so be it.

So are you insulted by McCain calling you a crazy, Or is it just talking chit to Trump?

Kent

I don't think McCain's comment was any less idiotic, but then again I'm not having to choose between those two for POTUS.

The book 'The Nightengale's Song' gives a good account of the kind of man Mccain was during his time in the Navy. He may very well be a different man now but he was 'stand up' then.

Trump is a moron and would screw anyone to get another buck. A megalomaniac that will say anything to stay in the public eye.

This is about insults as the title claims, that's the context, Trump insulted 'all' veterans... don't fall for the drama.

I always say, the only thing keeping McCain from being the worst POTUS in history is that Obama won the election and assumed the title.

Hard to argue with this.

You could say the same about McCain and his comment of "the crazies" considering how many vets are involved in the Tea Party movement, gun rights et al. Not to mention all of us who pay into the system that covers his $180,000/yr salary and his coming %100 of salary pension, and the separate health care and and....

McCain Profile: Prisoner of war
by Dan Nowicki and Bill Muller - Mar. 1, 2007
The Arizona Republic
CHAPTER III: PRISONER OF WAR
John McCain sat on a stool in Hanoi, his teeth broken, his body battered from a savage beating, his arms tied behind him in torture ropes.
A guard entered the room.
"Are you ready to confess your crimes?" he asked.
"No," McCain replied.
Every two hours, one guard would hold McCain while two others beat him. They kept it up for four days.

Finally, McCain lay on the floor at "The Plantation," a bloody mess, unable to move. His right leg, injured when he was shot down, was horribly swollen. A guard yanked him to his feet and threw him down. His left arm smashed against a bucket and broke again.
"I reached the lowest point of my 5+ years in North Vietnam," McCain would write later. "I was at the point of suicide."

What happened next, in that August of 1968, nearly a year after he was captured, is chronicled in The Nightingale's Song by Robert Timberg:

"(McCain) looked at the louvered cell window high above his head, then at the small stool in the room. He took off his dark blue prison shirt, rolled it like a rope, draped one end over his shoulder near his neck, began feeding the other end through the louvers."

A guard burst into the cell and pulled McCain away from the window. For the next few days, he was on suicide watch.
McCain's will had finally wilted under the beatings. Unable to endure any more, he agreed to sign a confession.

McCain slowly wrote, "I am a black criminal and I have performed the deeds of an air pirate. I almost died and the Vietnamese people saved my life, thanks to the doctors."
He would never forgive himself.

"I had learned what we all learned over there," he would write later. "Every man has a breaking point. I had reached mine."

But isn't being a POw exactly what McCain is remembered for?

Not much else about his service gets touted by his followers except that

I haven't seen a SINGLE McCain follower here. In fact, just about every post has hammered him on his political and even personal life. Some of us just have the ability to discern between the two and the fact he was a war hero does not excuse what constitutes what some of you call treasonous behavior in his political life which I can certainly agree with. But on this and the other thread, I have never to date seen so much conjecture and fantasies (not a single one substantiated) he lived the Life Of Riley while a POW. Missing have your teeth and having arms like a T-Rex as a result of his torture as a POW should give even the most obtuse here a clue.

The uestion was:
JM is remembered for his time as a POW

Not his ribbons and medals correct?

Yep, an amazing story of absolute brutality and toughness beyond what most of us could endure.

Still doesn't give the man the right or the authority to screw our country over. Or insult his fellow veteran brothers. Or be called a hero.

Trump may be a jerk but he has added to the wealth of this country while McCain has been sucking the wealth out by his siding with the socialist progressives time and time again.

It's called "The Halo Effect", and lots of people succumb to it. Just because somebody did something you approve of, doesn't mean that they are decent people (an angel). This guy was a veteran hero also.

I remember him for both, as well as his horrendous political record to date, including his views on Vietnam, torture, etc. He is an arrogant prick and believe me, I know quite a bit about the man. My best friend's FIL was his roommate at the Boat School and flight training, so yeah, I'm FAR from a McCain fan, but again, I can differentiate...

Trump's comments are out of line. I don't agree with every veteran's politics, but I respect all veterans that honorably serve or have served. Trump's a blowhard. I remember seeing McCain and the rest of those prisoners when they were released. What was Trump doing about then?

we are here to drain the swamp, but everyone is acting like they are up to their arse in alligators.

if we're to break out of this malaise that ol Jimmah said we are in, we've got to have a leader, traditionally speaking.

so what if a true leader possesses a few warts. trump is just human, and puts on his pants like the rest of us.

folks had better start looking at the big picture and stop worrying about protecting the status quo. the status quo is dead in the water.
