thought about 7mm-08 in rem mod-7.gun store has used but never fired one for sale $200 less than a new one. would use it for brushy wooded area on deer becouse of its shorter lengh than my rem mod 700 30-06.is this better than a .308 win in this type of hunting?one gun writer says it's recoil is a little more than a .243,but if the 7mm uses 140 gr. bullets and .308 uses 150 gr. i thought it would be closer to the .308.not worried about recoil just the muzzle blast and muzzle lift, plus i reload for the 30-06 so have plenty of .30 cal bullets ,is it worth saving 200 dollors on gun then have to buy diffrent cal. bullets as in is it that much better hand have less recoil than a .308 win 1,800 replies

There are a lot of young men looking for a challenge, looking to pursue excellence for its own sake. The SEALS and Special Forces appeal to them.

Yeah, lots of wannabe badazzes these days. I've seen lots of guys my age (early 20's) want to be this and that, very few actually go through with it. On the contrary, a good friend of mine's brother is graduated from BUD/S in July I believe, which I think is pretty damn cool.

Graduating BUD/S is a tremendous accomplishment.
One thing I would like to qualify about my last post in reference to Bosun's Mate, 2nd class in the Navy.
I think it is an honor to serve one's country. Regardless of the branch of service, regardless of MOS. No kid lays awake dreaming of becoming a barnacle scraper for the US Coast Guard, and noone ever got off the bus at Parris Island dreaming of the day he would be a supply clerk at Guantanamo Bay. A kid ought to dream big. The thing is, barnacle scrapers and supply clerks should never lie. Neither should any of the rest of us, for that matter, but in particular military veterans. To fabricate an honor so high as some of these, is a very low disgrace.
My two cents worth.
Oh, by the way, in these days and times, if I could get a 7/08 200 cheaper than a .308, you can bet a 7/08 would follow me home. Same thing Vice Versa. There ain't enough difference in them to make my spend an extra 200 bones.

I can't wait for Jeff O to tell us he's a black belt in Karate. But his hands were registered as deadly weapons by the FBI, so he can't fight anymore....

Some times I ask myself "what would Clint Smith do" and it all becomes clear. Ah yes, then you just yell at them . . . . . BMT

I figured the only reason I read JO's threads is the same reason I watch NASCAR occasionally..for the wrecks....
