For the record, here's how all this foolishment began
During my incarceration in the ICU at Mountain Vista hospital in Mesa, old friend Tom (AKA "Slim") brought along his buddy Kent and introduced us. Later, when I was doing hard time at the Apache Junction nursing home, Kent scammed my jailers into thinking that the name "Kent Powell" was close enough to "Ken Howell" to make us kin. He couldn't scam 'em into letting me go free, so he got 'em to let me wander outside in his "custody" for an hour or so now 'n' then.
One of our outings was an evening gab'n'grub fest at a local eatery, with a few others who were already good friends of Tom and Kent and became then good friends of Ken Howell. I couldn't make-out what they were talking about, but it was good to watch 'em get along so well and of course great to be on parole if even for only a couple of hours.
That wee shindig was apparently so enjoyable for them that they decided to try it again a few months later at Quemado Lake and that bash with several more good 'fire guys proved to be so much fun for everybody that some of 'em arranged another one at Greg's in Sierra Vista. That'n' led to another'n', just as last year's lake bash is leading to another'n' just a few long weeks from now.
So far, even though they're increasingly larger Campfire events, there've been no nastiness, maimings, or killings.
And so it goes fortunately. I count myself especially blest to know these guys and to watch 'em enjoy good clean in-person fellowship.

We DID maim the pulled pork supplied by THOMASMAGNUM and we DID kill a number of bottles of adult beverages in the process. This upcoming Gathering, we hope to leave some nasty holes in targets with the plethora of forearms that will be present. Ed

Interesting that you mention forearms.... I just got mine all decked out with new ink last week. Collossians 2:14 tatoo'ed on the whole inside of one and "SOLE FIDE!" on the other. Ken, I bet taht you can interpret the SOLE FIDE! for everyone. Large enough print in both cases that the underside of both forearms is now pretty well full coverage ink work. Ya'll have seen the photos of my shoulders and upper arms already scriptured up I think. When these heal up fully I may take some photos and post here, or might just wait and show them off at Quemedo. Forearms rock!

...and "SOLE FIDE!" on the other. Ken, I bet taht you can interpret the SOLE FIDE! I am not Ken, but (I think!) I have had enough Latin (in many science courses) to think that Sole fide means " by faith alone" or maybe "by only faith". How did I do? John

GOOD! FAITH ALONE! Which was the cry of the anabaptists in the very early days of the church when they were combating the Judaization and legalistic tendencies of some parts of the new, budding church and was then the battle cry of Martin Luther when they were being persucuted and even killed by the State Church folks who wanted all to follow thier brand of Traditions and other man made 'stuff' that is not taught in the bible. Is one of my ways of saying to those whom will sit and listen for a moment that being a follower of Christ is relationship rather than religion. Also that a lot of the nasty stuff and legalism that some try to pass of as being "Christian" has nothing whatever to do with the faith or being saved. Speaking of which, ya'll will have to excuse me now as I need to go load up my Coors Light's and a bottle of PATRON for our upcoming camping trip Blessings, MARK

28 Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor imprint any marks upon you: I am the LORD. Hmmm according to many biblical scholars that passage is in regards to the ancient practice of ritualistic tattoos in mourning of the dead. The actual text as posted above in translation from the Hebrew Torah seems to be fairly clear. So it would seem pretty evident that that wouldn't particularly apply to a tattoo as a proclaimation of faith or a reminder of a scripture verse of special personal importance... Unless of course you were just trying to stir schitt, but you wouldn't do that now would you Sycamore?...

My Jewish friends tell me that having a tattoo will prohibit one from being buried in a Jewish cemetery. I assume that this prohibition doesn't apply to those who were tattooed by the Nazis in prison camps.
I never paid any attention to this until a few years ago when one of my friends' daughters was wanting a tattoo and her older sister assured her that her mother would disown her. Not sure if it's religious prohibition, cultural or (as is often the case) both.
