I'm sure I will catch the bug for 2,700 fps even though it's not needed.

So you're the guy R. Mann referred to on his blog reply to me. Cool. Small world. I wonder if the shortened version of the 35 Rem would cycle through a lever action?

Yep, same fellow. I would not recommend using the shortened version in a lever action, unless you were using standard Marlin 336 loads. Not sure how a 1.8 inch would affect accuracy. Maybe you could call that "Indiana Freebore"

SWJ,

How long of a bullet will you be able to use with the shortened 35 Rem case? Max cartridge length?

Thanks

With the change to 1.8 I went in a different direction this year.

Working with only rifle bullets in the 180-200 gr range. Mark is very fond of the 200 gr TSX/TTSX and added some leade to allow the use. The max cartridge length is going to be around 2.5 inches, I believe.

Mark and I are meeting this weekend to get the details sorted out.

I got a box from Midway with Redding dies, Winchester brass and Hornady 200gr bullets for Mark to play with last night. I dummied up a cartridge, looks like a necked up 300 Savage. Seems small compared to my 7x57.

+1

I bet we end up with defined zones. Something like archery, shot gun and muzzle loaders where the current Urban deer zones are and the rifles and hand cannons in the less populated areas.

Will post pictures and load data...and hopefully some dead dinks and smoothies... grin

That length will work much better with the TTSX and maybe even the 200 AB. I can get the 200 TSX in the WSSM mag box but not the TTSX.

I am working on 300 savage rounds, I have had to size them from .308 Winchester because 300 savage brass is next to impossibe for me to find. I also have a lot of .308 laying around. I have trimmed the cases down to 1.8. I have been loading them for a Remington 788. When the weather breaks and I get some decent days to shoot I will let you guys know how it's doing.

Hey Ground Pounder I haven't seen any rule changes allowing .30cal bullets. As of now the minimum diameter is .357, with a max case length of 1.8". I've had good luck cutting down 35 rem brass to 1.79" and loading Hornady 200gr. FTX bullets to normal OAL. These cycle and shoot well in my 1969 Marlin 336. I took a 12 pointer this past season with this combo and after a hit through both lungs at 60 yards the deer took about 3 steps before he piled up.

Rebarrel the 788 to 35-300 Savage (a 35 ISHMA, I believe) and get a set of dies, then you would be good to go!

I am working on something very similar but in a SA 700. I had a custom reamer made with more leade than a 35 Rem so that I can use longer bullets like the 200 gr Accubond and TTSX's.

Can you do me a favor and measure the the length of a fired case and the case width at the shoulder? I trimmed mine to 1.79 inches also but I've recently remeasured several fired cases and they are 1.76 to 1.77 in length. The shoulder is also blown out some. I would like to know if the brass is undersized or if mine reamer is a little "improved".

Have you use a chrony on the reloads?

Thanks,
Scott
