As far as guys playing "sniper", thank god. Because without civilian competitors, the military would still be shooting equipment from 1970 and using techniques from 1950.....the civilian competition community is 20-30 years a ahead of most of the military/police in skill and equipment.


An FBI sniper instructor was at the Grants Pass shooting range instructing several of the FBI snipers. I was still making rings in those days so I thought I might show off my wares. After shooting the breeze with the instructor for a few minutes he showed me some of the 100 yard targets. The rifles were heavy barrel .308's of some kind. The target was a photo of the instructor more or less hiding behind his wife with most of his face showing over her shoulder. To his chagrin most of the trainees hit his wife instead of him.

A little editorializing: I think they don't like guns like we do. The rifle is just another tool to them like the vehicle or the vest.
