In case you're not aware, the bullets would need to have a gas check shank, plain base won't accept normal gas checks.
There is a way to apply thin aluminum gas checks to plain base bullets, I used to do it a lot, but we're really getting away from mainstream bullet casting and reloading there. Those don't normally work well on commercial cast bullets anyway; the alloy is too hard and the thin checks tear easily.
Are these what you have?

I'm with you on the cylinder jump and short cases, I prefer the longer case as well. SR7625 works well for this if you can get it (it's discontinued) but otherwise something like Unique will get the job done too.
