Were you shooting with your support thumb behind the slide? That's a pretty basic beginner's mistake.
Yes, all of Glocks factory threaded barrels use metric left hand threads, not US industry standard inch threads. I think that's a poor decision on Glock's part for the US market, but helps support the aftermarket barrel companies.
