While I completely agree with your thoughts on the allergy angle, I do have to point out that there is no better way to ruin brownies (or fudge) than to stick walnuts or pecans in them. This is not only a matter of taste, but also addresses the fact that there never has been, nor will be, any such addition that did not include bits of the shell of either species.
